For the last few weeks when I charge at home overnight, the ford app says the car is getting to 90% but when I turn it on and start driving it only says 88% and drops to 87% within 0.5 mile of leaving my house. The ford app then states 88% as soon as I turn on the car.

The charge is schedule to last for another hour but it has stopped because its gotten to 90 or so it thinks.

Whats the disconnect? Am I doing something wrong/need to change something in my charge app or ford app?

I've had the car for 11 months and this wasn't the case for the first 10 months.

Thanks!

Could be a bad module, I’ve seen almost this exact thing on the Lightning forums where they wouldn’t charge past 88.

OP never said it wouldn't charge higher, they have it set for 90%. A 1 or 2 point discrepancy is not a battery issue.

You are correct, I missed that part completely, thanks for catching that.

Mine charged to 88% today, set for 90%. I assumed it was the funky spring weather, or maybe some partially ready server change that got pushed?

I plan to just see what it does next time I charge.

Probably nothing is going wrong. The car is charging to 90% then the battery is probably reading 1-2% lower after cooling down.

This is why I no longer set my target charge at 80%. I set it for 85% and it will stay above 80% after the cooldown.

I set home charging to 90%, most times that's what the result is in both FP and the IPC. This morning I also got 88% on the IPC, but infrequently it shows 89%. This is not a military precision calculation. There is some variance wiggle room with all the variables that go into the reported result. It is not anything to be concerned about, IMHO.

Same here - I charge to 90%, precondition, get in the car and the GOM says 89%. I don't think it's an issue.

I assume it's not *stopping* at 88% when you've asked for 90%?

I’ve been having this issue for months now but it’s been difficult to narrow down and prove. Funny enough I live on a mountain and so usually my 90% will last a long time before it hits 89% due to starting my commute going down-hill, but now it hits 87% often before I’m even at the bottom of the mountain. It isn’t consistent though which is the annoying part.

The latest update my car got (a 2023) was in November 2024 was 10.1.1. I kind of assume it may be related because I think the issue started happening around that time, but maybe it’s different.

If you’re worried about the battery, do a 100% charge and verify it gets there.

Losing 1-2% after the charge finishes and you start driving is somewhat normal due to Ford’s charge termination strategy (could be improved).

I did do that once recently and it reached to 100% just fine, and it also held it there to discharge at a usual level that I was used to seeing. But that’s why it’s odd that it seems to only have an issue when charging to the recommended 90% daily charge. Since it’s also inconsistent though, I may need to try the 100% more frequently for a while to see if that is at least consistent when using 100% or not, although I would worry slightly about charging to 100% so much more frequently than I ever do currently.

I have a feeling this isn’t so much a battery issue as a software issue, but not enough data yet to be sure of that.

a 1 or 2% variance is pretty normal. Strangely enough, sometimes after charging to 90% I get in the car next morning and after driving a mile or so it goes up to 91%.

Same here lately. I charged at home to 90%, I started the car this morning and got 89%, out of the garage after 50 m it was 88%.
But last week I charged to 100% DC and went to 99% after 3-4 km in the city.

Same happens to me. Charge to "90%" but the minute I start it, it indicates 89%. No big deal.
