Those will become available to you when your car gets the OTA updates that add the features. Its looking like those updates will be coming sometime soon, But we don't have an actual date of when it will start rolling out.

Your fordpass version isn't too important as like the funk button will show up when your car has the correct software on it for that feature to work.

I have the frunk button in FordPass (latest iOS). Others do, too. It doesn’t do anything except pop up a message that “front trunk failed to open.”

BlueCruise is already rolling out from the factory in some GTs. But getting these features via OTA is a different story. We’ve been waiting over 8mos for Ford to deliver its first really substantive OTA update. The say an update is coming this month. We shall see.

Just noticed the frunk button in my app as well! (3.29.0 on Android) doesn't work either, but it's good to see some progress on the frunk is being made.

So I don't have the frunk button in FordPass, but it seems to me that the only way I can open the frunk right now is with the "pull 2x" mechanical latch under the dash. If it's a mechanical latch now, how can we implement an "open" button in software? You can't automate the mechanical latch in software. What am I missing?

There is an electrical actuator. That's what the button in the frunk will operate and what the leads behind the bumper cover operate now.

Wow. So why on Earth did Ford create this behemoth of a pull latch (reminiscent of the old style hood latch releases) in order to push a button on an electrical actuator? That makes no sense at all......

I don't think that's exactly how it works. I believe the electrical control is currently turned off. They need to turn it on for it to work. Lots of speculation as to why they didn't just have it turned on.

I’m not sure if this is correct, but I believe when I pull the manual frunk lever, I hear an electronic release. Does anyone else notice this?

It may be similar to he inside door releases, which are electronic at first but become a mechanical release when they are fully engaged. This feature was verified by Ford in an early you tube video. To open the door electronically, you only have to pull the handle a very small amount. Pulling it further engages the mechanical door release. This is a safety feature that allows one to exit even if the power or motors fail.

Maybe?

I do know someone on here did find the switch out solenoid or whatnot the would release the hood. I believe they found it had no power going to it but where able to trigger it with a power source.

If memory serves, it is the same thing used by the currently disabled interior frunk release.. if I find the subject post I'll link it here...

*Edit: some details in this thread about how the current latch works and adventures in making a backup. https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/indiana-jones-and-the-emergency-frunk-release.4630/

Here's the details on the module that opens the frunk using those wires in the front bumper if your battery dies...

The release doesn't push a button. It pulls a cable. Federal regulations mandate both a primary and secondary hood latch. One pull of the handle to release each latch. Opening the frunk will also cancel a remote start. A carryover from the ICE safety measure. It would be great if Ford could get that fixed, too.
