Sorry for the overload of car cleaning questions. I’m bringing my MME to a local EV car show tomorrow (first car show I’ve ever participated in) and I’m trying to get the car cleaned up.

Just hand-washed the car in my driveway and it came out great, but now the spotless clean car is really clashing with the dusty brake discs. This car is only two months old - I’m not even sure how these discs got so dusty in the first place.

Anyway, the car wash I trust was unexpectedly closed today so I was on my own with washing. I would normally ask them about the discs but I’m out of luck today.

Is there any (safe!) way to remove the excessive dust from these discs (see below)?

That's not dust. It's surface rust. It will be gone after the first couple of stops next time you drive it.

Huh! That’s really interesting! I use one-pedal mode and regenerative braking obsessively - maybe that’s why I’ve noticed this issue more on this car, my first EV.

Thanks for the quick and helpful answer - this is a much easier fix than I anticipated! ?

Yeah, it's a rust everybody who uses 1PD notices. Just drive w/o 1PD for a day and it will be clean.

Lol at brake dust. Seriously though, as others already pointed out, one moderate stop from 35-40mph to 0 will reveal the beautiful cast iron rotors once again. And you’ll be seeing this every time you wash your car and probably also when it rains.

Everyone here was right - I drove the car in two-pedal mode for about half an hour and the discs looked perfect. You learn something new every day.

My rotors look brand new after 8000 km. Do you think one drive with 1PD on will get rid of all that surface rust ;). Don't want to wear down those pads. It is amazing how easy this tech is on brakes.
