Brake Noise

So this week I have noticed that when coming to a complete stop I am getting a grinding noise from the brakes. Car only has a little over 10K miles on it and just had service that said brake pads were in good condition. We have been having winter weather the last two weeks and have done some longer trips in the car. Rotors have some rust on them, but nothing out of the ordinary. Would the half-shaft issue cause the noise only coming to a complete stop?

A bit of surface rust on the rotors might explain the noise. On a smooth, straight, safe road, bring the car to ~35MPH and then mash the brakes. Do 6 or 7 of these panic stops. That should clear the rust off of the rotors then out of the pads. ??

Put the car in neutral while braking so no regen is used, and do 5-10x 60-20 mph stops with moderate braking. You should feel and hear the noise go away with each stop.

Yes I am aware and us 1PD most of the time. However it is not the best to use in icy/snowy conditions. Even in 1PD the brakes are making the noise as friction braking completes the stop.

Unless you mash the brakes 2 pedal is also 100% regenerative braking.

Regardless, 1PD will not clear out this issue. He has to actively use the brakes, relatively hard, which means pressing pretty firmly on the brake pedal repeatedly from a moderate to high speed. Regenerative braking leads to the corrosion build-up that causes this noise. I drive 2PD and it still happens to me when I don’t clean the brakes. Admittedly, I clean them fairly regularly (when I see a fun corner coming up). ??

Not 100% but pretty darn close. There appears to be a slight difference between 1PD and 2PD related to those last few feet. As best as I can tell, 1PD is able to use regen to bring the vehicle to a complete stop but it isn't able to harvest any energy for those last few feet. That is why 1PD and 2PD have the exact same net efficiency even though one blends in the frictions brakes where the other may not. Repeated frequent stops ends up using blended friction brakes in exactly the same fashion with either mode. It is really a genius system.

Will do, driving to Hood River tomorrow over Satus Pass in WA so will use the neutral braking on one of the down hills in that area.

Update: drove over the pass and used the Neutral braking on the down hill. Noise significantly improved. I also think that I just hear the friction braking more since the car is so quiet.

I am a new owner of a 2022 MME GT PE that arrived early December 2022. I noticed the loud brake clamping and release sounds almost immediately after driving it off the lot. Only happens on inclines/declines and low speeds. Had to parallel park on an incline and wow... thought the car was going to fall apart due to all the noise produced.

Anyways, brought the car back to the dealership after a few weeks and they said it was normal, especially with the Brembo brakes(what?). I didn't believe them until they let me test drive a brand new MME GT PE that had just arrived, and it made the same loud brake clamping/release sounds at low speeds and inclines/declines.

I guess I have to accept it as being normal... but doesn't make it any less annoying. Overall, brakes work just fine.

We have noticed the brake noise for the entire year we have owned this vehicle. However, when we drive it with one pedal drive, We hear nothing unusual when it stops.

Curious: Does anyone have an explanation?
