Charging infrastructure will catch up quickly, so the quality of the vehicle matters more at this point. If Ford can demonstrate their commitment to improve the cars people already own, they'll come out ahead. If they drop the ball on OTA updates and addressing general customer concerns quickly, Tesla might come out ahead if they fix the quality issues. (Note that the refreshed Tesla's coming out later this year include the second smaller screen behind the steering wheel....) In either event, customers will win in the long run now that there's a real race horse in the running. ?

Wow. Just wow. I’ve always maintained that the MME beats the MY on points, but the choose ultimately comes down to each driver’s styling and travel priorities.

C&D didn’t go that route. It really savaged the MY Performance in a way I didn’t expect. The MME doesn’t just come out ahead in this review - it comes out way ahead.

This is a major accolade for Ford.

Once again, a major publication mentioned the away-from-home charging problems without mentioning that the car can leave the driveway charged to 100% every day you own it if range is a concern.

This omission once again sets just a wee bit of range anxiety in ICE drivers taking their first look without solving any fears in their minds.

"Even Car and Driver mentioned that there aren't enough chargers" just popped out of someone's mouth this afternoon.

Do you mean the Model S and Model X? They‘ve always had that.
At one point, it was optional to get the second screen, wasn't it?

And let's not discuss the yoke steering wheel that doesn't seem ready for prime time.....

No, the instrument cluster screen has always been standard on the Model S and Model X. It was dropped for the Model 3 and Model Y, presumably to cut cost.
Ah. That's why Sandy Munro loves Tesla's... Cost cutting is his favorite thing! LOL

No, no, no. It was dropped as a style choice to give it a clean, modern and sophisticated look. You know, to match the classiness of the fart noises.

They’ve always been sort of lukewarm on the Model Y. Their comments about driving the Model 3 vs the Model Y are interesting, though I’ve never driven either and have only sat in a Model 3.

I think the biggest thing with the Model Y is it’s just a little bit less interesting than the other Teslas. The Model S was the first notable Tesla and put the company on the map (and it’s still a gorgeous large sedan), the Model X was the first SUV and had those incredible doors, the Model 3 made Tesla accessible for the first time to a wide group of buyers and from what people have written is a great drive, but the Model Y doesn’t really have a big first or some other claim to fame.

Maybe if the Model Y came out five years ago, the reviews would be different, but Tesla also has a level of competition in the EV market it did not when the last prior Tesla, the Model 3 rolled off the line in 2017, and I think maybe that has also rained a little bit on the Model Y’s parade.

It's a pretty spot-on comparison. Crazy to me that C&D can't get ahold of a Model Y LR.

Maybe I missed it, but I don't think they mentioned that Tesla sells performance upgrades via OTA, specifically acceleration. If Ford could do something like that for the MME, that'd be pretty neat.
