I tried to back car out of garage and it wouldn't move. I thought maybe the parking sensors were braking so I shut them off with no change. I then tried to go forward. Initially it wouldn't move then suddenly there was a loud cracking sound and the car lurched forward. Fortunately I didn't slam into my freezer. I was then able to back out normally and thought all was well. However as soon as I started to drive down the driveway I could hear a rhythmic thumping sound about once a second as the car traveled slowly. Not wanting to create further damage I put the car back in the garage. Later in the day I contacted the selling dealer. I was informed that they only have one EV tech and he is booked until February. They gave me the option of leaving the car there indefinitely and maybe he could work it in sooner. Has anyone else had this happen?

Brake material stuck to the rotors. Search around you'll find several topics on it.

That is very interesting because the car was washed in the driveway on Sunday and wasn't driven since. I had mentioned to my wife how rotors can develop a coating of surface rust within hours when the car is not driven. I'll take it out today and see if some braking resolves the noise. Thanks a lot!

Sometimes I get a pretty good clunk as the rotor rust brakes free backing out, especially after rain or washing the car, and then not driving for several days.

For me, the level of regen and 1PD is nearly perfect now, so it is easy to almost never use the brakes. I try to do more friction braking when I notice rust building on the rotors. I keep friction braking with purpose until I see bare metal again.

The car has a "hold" function, where the brakes hold it in place when you stop. When wet, the pads then adhere to the rotor, and they do exactly what you've posted. Sometimes it goes away quickly. However, there are cases where literally chunks of pad are stuck to the rotor, and there is a TSB to replace them. You would be able to physically see the pieces.

Yep, that's exactly the reason/cause. The brake pads on this car sit on the rotors a bit closer than other cars, so they tend to stick if it gets wet, the rotor rusts (normal), and they adhere.

No problem at all.

Exact same thing happened to me and it is the brake lining sticking to the rotor. I had both rear brake pads replaced and the rotor on the affected brake replaced too. When it happened, my wife went to drive the car and she came back saying "there is something wrong with this car!" I asked what and she said it "thumps" when driving.

PS - There is a TSB for the brakes and this problem except it's ONLY for the front brakes, not the rear. I wanted all four replaced and quoted the TSB but the dealer said the mechanic checked my front brakes and they were fine and wouldn't replace them. Just an FYI.

I wash my car at a wash that’s about 4 miles from my house. Even after the 4 mile drive, I’ll perceive some brake sticking the next morning. I think there’s a TSB about the problem.

Awesome! I didn't expect so many rapid and helpful responses.

It is bad practice to wash and put away wet. Always drive the car a few miles to get the brakes dried off and you will not have this issue.
Point taken (good idea, a short drive or maybe the leaf blower), but then after rain, what do you suggest?

First time it's happened to me in 50 years.

If you experience a problem, have your dealer apply TSB 21-2206.

Could be, I will look at it more closely, but I have experienced this momentary sticking at one time or another, on all of my past EVs, PHEVs, just rust, not anything more complicated.
