It looks like there is very little by way of fast chargers in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.

I often go up to the Mount Washington Valley (North Conway, Bartlett) and Pinkham Notch.

If you have your car and have been up there, what has your experience been?

Everything is focused on the coast. I did a trip up to Portland on thanksgiving and it was fine, but when I looked at taking my daughter to storyland last summer it would have been too difficult to take the Mach-E.

Yes, nothing up north in NH. Enroute, there are EAs in Manchester and a row of new L3's waiting to be activated at Mall Rockingham in Salem, NH right off I93, EA I believe. Until then you can get 62 kWh at a Charge Point station near there next door to a Pressed Cafe location.

EA had just opened the L3 charger in Lebanon, NH when I took a trip up to Quebec, so no problem. I also did a trip to Nova Scotia and got around the Maine charging desert by staying at motels with L2 chargers (Seawall going up and Houlton coming back).

I found some updates for Maine:

The Maine Turnpike chargers at Kennebunk (north and south) and West Gardiner service plazas were upgraded to 150kW.
https://www.revisionenergy.com/sola...tes/ev-corner-maines-dc-fast-charging-network

The new timetable for the expansion of Maine chargers:
Two high-speed chargers, each capable of providing 62.5kW each to two vehicles or 125kW to a single vehicle and universally accessible (both CHAdeMO and CCS plugs) will be installed by the following dates at the following locations:

  • Hannaford Supermarket, High St., Ellsworth (project owned by Revision Energy) – May 31, 2023
  • Hannaford Supermarket, Lincolnville Ave., Belfast (project owned by Revision Energy) – May 31, 2023
  • Irving Oil, Odlin Rd., Bangor – December 31, 2022
  • Irving Oil, Moosehead Trail, Newport – December 31, 2022
  • Irving Oil, Center St., Fairfield – December 31, 2022
  • Irving Oil, Washington St., Auburn – December 31, 2022
  • Petronino Corp. (On the Way), Lisbon St., Lewiston – December 31, 2022

I also noticed Darling's Honda Nissan Volvo having a lone DCFC charger in Bangor.

Vermont have really expanded their EV charging locations. I am mainly interested in the I-89 corridor and noticed stations from White River Junction to St Albans. A lot of them are 50kW. It is interesting to only select the CCS Plug in Plugshare and see Vermont having locations all over the state, while nearby areas of New Hampshire and Northern NY only have a few.

similar experience for me in Northern NM.... one you get away from Interstates, there are literally NO L3 chargers in NM presently.

It is even hard to find 7kw L2, or outlets! I've found a few at resturants, Hotels, B&Bs, schools.... but obviously you have to plan to hang out for a couple hours and see the local sights or go for a hike, or spend time shopping/eating.... which is what a lot of the small towns want anyway.

I would suggest you call around in the little towns where you might want to hang out, and ask if there are any 240v outlets, or L2 stations anywhere nearby.

Just had a good L2 experience at Pinkham Notch AMC. Basically you plug in and you throw in a donation at Joe Dodge lodge. No messy third party software. About 18 miles per hour in colder weather.

There's a new charger going in at Epsom circle with the new Common Man shop.

The state of CCS DCFC in northern and central NH is abhorrent (Tesla is only marginally better). I was just in the Plugshare app messing around with the filters to see what there was for true fast charging around Conway and Winnipesaukee. Zilch.

Tesla has Supercharger stations in Meredith, Ashland, Lincoln and Conway at least. The fact that EA, Evgo and Chargepoint have absolutely nothing in Conway, Laconia, Meredith and Lincoln (Loon Mountain Skiing) is ridiculous at this point.

I'm going to do a follow up post from my phone so I can use a screenshot of the Plugshare app (on my laptop right now).

Even when I filter for slower J1772 LV2 it is still a desert. I can't believe none of the restaurants and hotels in the Lakes Region and White Mountains have at least a LV2. It is possible the app simply has not been updated with newer chargers but this is the year of the IRA.

I will admit the dearth of public charging is not an issue for me personally. NH is a small. I can drive to the lakes and back on one charge. Conway too. But MA has a higher BEV adoption rate than NH. This means there will be a larger number of tourists coming into NH and ME in EVs. Having a charger will drive traffic to your business. Particularly LV2 where drivers will have to wait longer to gain meaningful range and will be more inclined to wonder around to kill time.

I think what is the most frustrating to me is how difficult it is to find out where new chargers are planned and, more importantly, when they will be available. The IRA should have included funds for a massive information and marketing blitz on charging infrastructure. Especially, where "lack of public charging" is still near the top of the list of reasons people won't buy an EV.

It would be nice if folks from Drive Electric NH and similar organization were in these forums.

This crosses my mind every weekend, driving from MA up I-93 to Lincoln, NH and passing the Hookset interstate rest area. There's a bank of a dozen Superchargers on both the northbound and southbound sides that you can see from the highway. There's also banks of Superchargers just off the highway in Concord, Tilton, Ashland, and in the destination of Lincoln. My Supercharger jealousy is real.

I actually live in Meredith so I usually wouldn’t need a fast charger in NH because I’m so central - but I agree with you and can fully envision what NH weekenders and visitors with EVs have to worry about. NH Has been looking at this and planning fast charging but from what I can researching on the nh.gov site…this has been in the works for years and progress is at a snail’s pace.
