I am seeing and reading conflicting information on line and in the manual. Looking at the specs on the standard battery it states having a 78.7 kw battery in the premium AWD. Ford advertises this as having 68kw usable. When charging the battery is it okay to charge to 100%? Looking in the manual, one part of it states that you should only charge it to 90% and another part states its okay to charge to 100% if you are driving it daily (which I do). Some of the online information states that Ford put that buffer into place for those that charge to 100%. I know Tesla and others state to maintain your battery between 20% and 80% for longevity. Any information would be helpful. I just want to make sure I am getting as much life from the battery as possible.

Nobody knows for sure. You’re probably fine charging to 100% due to buffer and charging curve set by Ford. You’ll probably also slightly extend battery life by charging to 80 or 90%. But how much benefit is anyone’s guess.

long story short: it is not good to leave Li-ion batteries charged too full for long periods. If you are going to drive it right away then you're fine charging it all the way up to 100%. With that said, Ford does "reserve" 11% of the battery from being used (that's why it is 68kwh "usable" of the actual 76 kwh battery). In essence, if you're charging to 100% of the usable amount the battery is still actually only 90% charged. At 90% of the "usable" amount it has 61kwh of charge, which is 80% of the actual true 76kwh capacity.

Either way it will last a long time, but to squeeze the absolute most out of the battery charge to 80% to 90% of the usable capacity.

I plan to charge as needed for my usage pattern and not worry about the battery. The small gain from trying to optimize SOC at all times doesn't seem worth it to me. YMMV.

It's not like you need to worry about this every day. You just set SOC % once, and forget it. When/If you are going on a long trip, you just click on charge to 100%. I set mine at 80%, mostly because I am currently averaging 120 miles of driving a week and don't really need a fully charged batter.

I do roughly 400 miles a week driving.
