I'm sorry but this don't sound like the huge savings I was expecting. But Ic it is in California where utilities is out of control. We saved 880$ in 2021 on gas with our plug in hybrid so my mache I hope is at minimum triple we do 15-20 k a yr and premo gas averages 3.80-4.00. kwh is .010 here

Many don't take the true total as you noted, however, many also don't research alternative electricity rate plans from their utility. Have you checked yours?
they will offer you a penny or two less for 5-6 month then jack up over the price of utility company. Lately I have not seen any good offer.?

Savings will depend on many factors. One big factor is your average mi/kWh. My commuting is 95% on the freeway. I'm usually going between 70-80 mph, at those speeds it make a big difference. In the summer months I was getting around 3.3-3.5 mi/kWh, however in the winter that drops down to about 2.2-2.5 mi/kWh. This is my first EV I didn't know the exact impact on my range. You should also factor in maintenance in your savings, not just fuel costs. People always say EV's require so much less maintenance. That has yet to be seen, at least for me, but according to the manual the maintenance schedule is VERY sparse.

In the end your saving will come down to what you're comparing the savings to. If you compare your actual usage against Chevy Suburban, you'll see massive savings. If you compare against a Honda Civic the savings wouldn't be as drastic. As a fellow Californian, one thing we can count on is the gas prices will always be through the roof, so there will always be savings to be had.

Based on the information you provided here is an estimate of what you could save. It isn't quite 3x, but it is in the ballpark.

Year2021
Total Miles20,000
Cost Per KWH*$0.10
KWH Used (Assumes 3.5 mi/kWh)5,714.29
MPG35
Gal Used (Based on MPG)571
Gas Price (California Average for 2021 for regular gas)$4.66
Gas Cost$2,662.86
Electric Cost$571.43
Savings$2,091.43
