Really good video - thanks for sharing...

In the last week or two, I've heard:
  • EVs are all made of carbon fiber, that is why they cost so much
  • EVs are way too light, that is why they can't go in the snow
  • My EV battery will need to be replaced in one more year, because then it will be 3 years old
  • EV batteries will all end up in landfills which will overflow and pollute ground water
  • I could go on...

We can thank Fox News for most of those

I don't know if I should laugh, cry, scream, or simply roll my eyes. I gotta say, living in the Bay Area is an entirely different experience. The only one I hear that kind of stuff from is my aunt in New Mexico...

I wish there was more of these stories floating around. I also recently read about a few Canadian companies who have been recycling LiOn batteries for years, and are now moving into EV batteries. Some with really high recovery rates, and plans to move into battery production right beside the recycling factory.

Side note - also keep hearing about how the grid will collapse, and at least speaking on behalf of Canada, BC has surplus power, and will have no issues keeping up with 2030 projections. Same for Hydro Québec. That may not be the case for every utility in N.A., but it's not all doom and gloom either.

Hydro is awesome!
We lived in central Washington state for a couple of years and couldn’t get over how cheap the power was. I think the most we ever paid for electricity was $120 a month in summer. That was back in 2013-2014 so I’m sure it’s more now. We also had lots of EVs back then in the small town we lived in and L2 chargers all over the place.

Not to mention the foolish, "but mining for lithium is so destructive..." with the subtext being, "so we should keep mining for coal and oil."

The fake photo of the supposed open pit lithium mine (which is a copper mine from no later than 2011) is my "favorite." They never do show the vast fields of oil pumps or mountain tops removed for fossil fuel mining.

Pretty neat, wish they went more into info on the home/grid battery reuse option. That has caught my attention before because you don't care as much about the energy density, so there's a bit more flexibility in reuse there.
I'm somewhat seriously considering buying a wrecked EV on copart with the intent of salvaging the battery for a home energy storage system.

I mean if nothing else, batteries and the stuff in them ain't cheap. You can't tell me if the manufacturers could get some o' dat stuff back they wouldn't.

Altruism and environmental stewardship aside, money talks. I always remind naysayers of that because oftentimes the renewable approach to doing things saves coin. I don't care why they recycle the batteries so long as they do 😁.

SMH and [face-palm]. I've just stopped arguing with these voices. My default response is now "Yah, okay sure. You go with that. Say hi to Santa and the Easter Bunny for me".
