I've had my car for over 3 months now and got a renewal reminder for the in-car WiFi data plan after the complementary period is due to expire soon.

I don't believe this affects the Navigation as that was 2 years free from Ford so I don't know if there is any other advantage for having this

It renews for about $200 annually but would like others opinions if it is worth signing up for after the trial period.

Thanks!

I am in the same boat, but unlimited Cellular WIFI for 12 months for $200 is pretty darned cheap.

I use it, but only because I spend significant amounts of time in my car killing time at work. My job is very much “you’re either very busy, or very bored”. I noticed that the speed of the hotspot is significantly faster than the cellular data on my iPad Pro, which is also on AT&T, so it makes more sense to use the car for entertainment while I’m at work waiting for something to happen. Another reason I pay for it is that my partner is always busy on her phone and laptop working, so on road trips she can still be productive while we are traveling to or from a destination.

Thanks for sharing scenarios how this can be useful! I guess it would apply for areas where my T-Mobile coverage would not be the best and act as a backup.

I was going to consider it, but after realizing I cannot use the hotspot and Android Auto at the same time, I found I barely used any of the free data.

If I could use wireless AA and the hotspot, it would be a good deal in my opinion.

Do you mean on the same device, or is the hotspot completely disabled when using wireless AA?

Same device. So if the device is on AA (or Car Play I assume) it connects via WiFi and thus disconnects from the hotspot.

I don’t have my GT yet, but we considered the AT&T vehicle WiFi in our Yukon. Wasn’t worth it for us because of our family plan. For the same $10 per month we could upgrade a line to “elite” and get 30gigs hotspot data + HD streaming, 50 more gigs of data on the phone, and hbo max.

I have it set up with a roku where the kids can stream Disney on the rear screens (why we were considering it in the first place) and I can still steam music at the same time no problem. The HD streaming uses about 3gigs per hour, so if you needed more than about 10 hrs of streaming or the equivalent data per month you would need to use another line or use vehicle WiFi for what we’re doing.

I work a lot from the car as well as use my Carplay AI box and the Hotspot functionality has been great for me. As someone else stated, its significantly faster than my T-Mobile Hotspot. Well worth the $200 IMHO.

I haven't even activated my complementary WiFi so the data plan must not affect navigation.
It's been a little over 3 months so I guess I missed the boat with free WiFi. :)

I made the same realization as well but still have a month to decide.

That $200 is an excellent price. Esp. With children. For comparison the network plan on the Audi Etron is $500 for 18 months. About double the cost.

If you haven’t activated your free 3 month/3 GB trial, you still can at any point. Once activated, your trial runs that 3 months or 3 gigabytes of data.
