Howdy all,

I've done a lot of searching through the forums and other sources, but there doesn't seem to be one place that lists confirmed models of 19" wheels that will fit the GT-PE, so I thought I'd start one.

If you've confirmed fitment (or confirmed DOES NOT fit) for any wheels or rims, please share! I'll add them to the list.

For people who are wondering why you'd want to go down a size, thicker sidewalls tend to give you a softer ride and improved range. In some cases, wheels or tires may be available in 19", but not 20".

Keep the 20's ... they look better... I have the GT wheels stacked up ... untouched... I was looking for a wider wheel... went with 20 x 9 vs 20 x 8 ... I might paint the GT wheels black for the Nite Pony look.

Thanks for collecting all this in one place. I've got some more for you. I found another posting on the forum of someone who made a 19" set from TireRack. That prompted me to make a similar set with different wheels. Today I mounted the set of wheels to my car so I wanted to help add more options to your chart.

Awesome, thank you! I've added them to the table in the first post.

The wheels look great, btw!

any idea what the range boost might be after switching the GTPE to 19" wheels? one regret i have vs. the M3 performance is that the GTPE range is a lot less despite having a much larger battery. wondering if putting on smaller wheels would help this appreciably.

how about any speedo/odo error with running smaller wheels? is there a way to tweak that so the computer knows the wheels are smaller?

Would likely be around 5-10% more efficient basing on premiums and switching to get wheels that lost that much

Yeah, it's hard for me to say exactly since I switched to aero 19" wheels at the same time as I switched to winter tires, but my personal experience was that I've been getting the same or slightly better range on this setup compared to the stock 20" tires and rims.

I did the first leg of a range test at 40F and wanted to try another one at similar conditions once I got my wheels switched out, but the temp dropped right after I switched them out. If it warms up a bit I'll see if I can do a formal range test.

I was lucky enough to get a nail in the side wall of the original 20 "" ME GTP tires. Had 10,000 miles. Just put Michelin Pilot Sport all weather tires on and the ride is so much better. They are great.

Here is my setup for the coming winter here in Canada for my 2022 GTPE:

Wheels: TSW SEBRING Silver with Mirror Cut Face, size 19x8.5, pattern: 5x108, offset: +42, hub bore: 72.1 mm, load rating: 2000 lb, weight: 27 lb. (The rear GAWR is 3260 lb so the wheel needs to be at least 3260/2 = 1,630 lb load rated)(Part #1985SEB425108S72 in silver or part #1985SEB425108M72 in black)

Tires: NOKIAN WR G4 SUV 255/50 R19 107V XL (All wheater tire with 3PMSF logo) rated for 2,150 lb (975 kg) and 150 mi/h (240 km/h), weight: 32.2 lb.

Discussion: I purchased the wheels at CanadaWheels.ca, the good thing is they allow that you to buy one (1) wheel to try on the car for fitment (without mounting the tire on the wheel) and if it does not fit you can return the wheel. This is what I did and the wheel was test fit at a local garage. The final installation with the four (4) wheels was done at Desjardins Ford in Montreal to make sure that everything was okay. The OEM nuts don't fit the TSW wheel and a set of the correct ones will be in the cart when purchasing the wheels. You will need four (4) hub-centric rings with OD 72.1 to ID 63.4 mm, I purchased them on Amazon. I went with aluminum ones instead of plastic to make sure they don't break when doing a tire rotation. There is a small lip with this model of the ring that needs to be ground away so the wheel sits tight against the car hub. I coated the wheel with some ceramic coating to make sure the salt would not attack the bare aluminum over time. All this will result in a gap of about 10 mm between the wheel and the brake caliper. I have inflated the tire to 36 psig instead of 39 psig because it is permitted on a bigger tire and it gives a softer ride. I like to inflate my tires with nitrogen for the winter because the water in the air of the tire will not condense at rest and re-evaporate when driving to change the pressure even more than just the heat of the tire (= slightly more constant tire pressure). I am under the impression that nitrogen-filled tires give a smoother ride compared to air-filled for the same pressure. If you try it let me know your impression (I know there is 78% of nitrogen in the air and it should not make a difference). The tires are about 10 inches wide and the wheels are 9 inches wide overall which gives some protection for the wheels when rubbing accidently against a curb. Tesla wheels are the same or wider than the tires which is a good trick to put the most air in a tire and improve the smoothness of the ride but at the cost of easily rubbing/damaging the wheels against the curb. Personally, I don't like the aesthetic look of the wheels wider than the tires and I am glad Ford did not go that route.

Observations: The OEM tires 245/45 R20 (inflated at 39 psig) are good for highway driving but not for city driving with potholes like there are during the winter. The above setup gives a much smoother ride on highway driving and city driving on bad roads. So far looks like the reduction in wheel diameter nullifies the increase in the width of the tire and I have not seen any difference in the km/kWh. Going wider than OEM tire size for a winter tire does not worry me when you consider the weight of this car (the same weight as an ICE F-150).

I have learned a lot from the Tesla community because many users think that the Model Y has a rough ride and they are installing wider tires and upgrading their suspension with after-market kits. I like the Magneride system that really makes a difference. A good set of tires designed specifically for EVs makes also a big difference in the smoothness of the ride.

The winter boots are on, and I have a new set of wheels that are a confirmed fit:

Art Replica One: https://www.canadawheels.ca/art-replica-wheels/one-gloss-black-w1313265
  • Size: 19x8
  • Bolt Pattern: 5x108
  • Offset: +45
  • Bore: 63.4
  • Load: 1807 lbs
Tires: Continental IceContact XTRM - 225/55/R19 103T XL

The close-up pictures maybe weren't at the best angle, but there's plenty of room between the front rotors and the wheel. This wheel/tire combo is only +0.2" in circumference, so it's nearly an identical setup when compared to stock.

Went with the Continentals so I could maintain the 103 load rating. A good chunk of the other options at that size were only rated @ 99.

@Rotmeat just curious, but is it your GT that is pictured above with the Fast EV01's?

I'm getting PMC Tire to ship me a single wheel in the 19x7.5" +42mm offset sizing for test fitting, and we know that the wheel itself will clear based on the pictures in this thread.

But, I'm wondering if there is enough space between the spokes of the wheel and the face of the caliper... Could you lend any insight if that is indeed your vehicle as to how much space is there on yours?

That is mine, yes.

I didn't take measurements of the spokes back then, and I won't be back on my 19"s until it gets a little colder - maybe another month or so? But I can take measurements then.

aren't winter rims sposda keep the snow out of the inner workings of the wheels?

a lot of these recs look like they're just a different type of metal, or a smaller size in a performance rim.

granted, different metals rust or whatever with salt n such, but the smaller by an inch makes a diff?

I've seen some posts on here where it looks like the snow is just caked up in the spokes, but they're in Alaska and still swearing by them.

isn't the snow and salt gettin up in there?

please tell me what rims and tires to get for an ontario, canada winter. i'm not a car guy, or engineer; my major is medicine.
the ford website is telling me tires for the 20" rims i have, but i think those will suck in the winter. hopefully i can use these 40k ford points up?
maybe i can just tell the dealer what to do?
seems unwise, given the collective wisdom we have here.
