Sorry to ask before searching... I thought that $500+ price was for the Ford hardwired EVSE, not for another Ford Mobile Charger.

If that $500+ cost is real, I guess I will be paying much more attention to other brand offerings!

I believe the FCCS (hardwired home EVSE) is $799.

Yikes! It just keeps getting worse!

Thanks very much for the info. Greatly appreciated.

Doesn't the CharePoint Home Flex max out at 50A charging? Shouldn't you limit the EVSE to 40A when hooked to a 50A outlet?
The outlet isn't that important. The wire is the most important part of the circuit, so the first order of business is to make sure the wire is sized for the EVSE. The next most important part of the circuit is the breaker which protects against the wire overheating and protects the EVSE.

The outlet is the least important part of the circuit and traditionally hasn't been an issue. Unfortunately the build quality has become very low -- a 14-50 outlet might not be able to support a constant draw of 32A. To address this problem the building code now requires a GFCI breaker which will detect a failing outlet and shut off the circuit before the failing outlet causes any damage.

Bottom line is if the wire and breaker are sized correctly, and the breaker is per code a GFCI breaker, you can have a 6-30 or a 14-50. (It's also why you don't need a GFCI breaker if you hardwire the EVSE).

So what do we think...are these decent chargers as "backups"? Going to be using the Ford Mobile charger as my main at home, but would love to have one in the car for trickle charging at other locations (weekend stays, etc). And yes I know I can take the Ford Mobile charger with me...but come on, I have to remember to do that every time? ?

So, for $30 more I could get a Grizzl-e and have a charger that's UL certified. Leave the Ford in the trunk.

Agreed but we were discussing outlets in a campground. I don't think the campground management would think too kindly of folks ripping open the electrical delivery stations to check the wire sizes.

Not to mention the fact that so many forum members have reported overhearing issues with their Ford Mobile Chargers… Even if Ford only wanted $300 for the FMC (they want $500 currently), it is not worth it. 😕🐩
