Found a MME on the lot of Encinitas Ford. The sales guy, Larry, informed me that his Sales Manager would not accept my X-Plan PIN for this specific vehicle as it was the only AWD on the lot but I could use it for any of the RWD MMEs.

I could have sworn it was on a per dealership basis, not at the Sales Manager's Whim basis.

I also just noticed the $5K Market Adjustment increase to the sales price... awesome..

Absolutely not... I hate the bait and switch tactics people are pulling right now. It's a shitty business practice and I refuse to reward bullish behavior like that.

It is up to the dealer whether to accept X-Plan on any in-stock vehicle. This is different for ordered vehicles. The obvious reason he doesn't want to accept X-Plan on this one is because he is hoping to score the $5,000 price gouging adjustment.

The dealership my b/f went through for his order (prior to me working at a ford dealership) would not honor the X-plan on his ordered unit. They were not even going to give him the clean air rebate as they had intentions to keep that amount for themselves. Dealer ADM's on this vehicle is non-sense, its going to be a high production vehicle with no need for a markup. Retail units are on the way! Be patient and save yourself the money!!

X-plan discount isn't very big on this car (I don't have my paperwork in front of me but it occurs to me that it was something in the range of $600-700).

But what's weird about this is that the dealer apparently does accept employee/supplier discounts on other models, but not on this hot-seller? I don't work for Ford (decades ago I was a GM employee and know how those discounts work ... or did at that time anyway). But I have lots of friends who work or worked for Ford. I thought I recall them explaining that while the dealer doesn't have to accept discount pricing ... that there were some rules about it. And I thought they said one of the rules was they couldn't accept discount plans on "slow" sellers (because that helps them with sales volume) and then reject it on "hot" sellers. Either they take it (on everything) or they reject it (on everything). I didn't think dealers were allowed to pick & choose on a model-by-model basis. (Caveat... Ford doesn't offer discount pricing on every model ... but they DO on this model.)

If someone who works for Ford can maybe let me know if I got that wrong ... but I thought that's what they told me.

I do work for a Ford dealership and we honor all plan pricing on every model (if applicable). And yes at most times it is up to their discretion to accept the plan or not. Makes zero sense when the money is given back to them by Ford themselves. Just not a dealer to do business with if they won't accept the pin. My bf ordered his through a different dealer than the one I work for (the order was pre-me working at a ford dealer) and they would not accept my pin I created for him. So needless to say we got what we could (had to fight for clean air rebate)....They even had the guts to offer me a job, no way I would ever work for people like that...

My guess is that they have to submit the 'plan' deals to Ford to get reimbursed and would get in trouble for the ADM.

ADM aren't against the rules per say, should be reserved for highly sought low production vehicles, however I think it would be suspicious when they did submit it through to Ford....Just not good business....

I'm still trying to figure out what the actual dealer margin is.

I've heard directly that they get 5k per unit sold, which would track. I've heard other dealers have been offering multiple F-150s or Broncos in trade for MMEs out here. Maybe those dealers are more successful at adding ADM. seems silly to pay it tho if you do any research or call around in SoCal at all.

But I've also had dealers say they make zero on the car. Not sure if that's ordered ones or what. I questioned the guy, if you make 0, why AREN'T you trading it for 2 F-150s etc?

My assumption is that roughly 5K credit or holdback is accurate though from MSRP.

No, there is not 5k per car. Maybe if the dealer added the addendum, but the invoice price is the same as the MSRP. Only reduced amounts are for one of the Ford plans. If there is anything Ford is offering, its not on the billing invoices. I am looking at one right now as we speak with this information.

yeah I realize the invoice shows no meat on the bone for the dealers. Which is how Ford wants it to keep the price locked and to move more towards that Tesla model.

The only thing that makes sense is there is a kickback from Ford for every unit sold. There's no way the dealers aren't making money on these at MSRP. Why else would they be trying to get inventory, trying to trade for them with other desirable (and even ADMed) cars?

The unit bonus is where they most likely are making the money, as a dealership. I know we are not trying to trade with other dealers. We are running on a order system. We have sold every single order that has come in. So right now we just place orders for customers. Turn around is not as bad as it was at one point. It makes no sense to trade for one for smaller dealerships like I work at, however the bigger ones maybe they can give up two things for just one. But its not really worth it at this point since the orders are coming in easily.
