Defective Hubbell 14-50 ??

Just to close this out. I got the Bryant outlet from Grainger and installed it over the weekend and all works as intended. The ground socket on the Bryant was visibly better than the Hubbell. Not sure if it was a one-off issue, or as someone else said an Amazon knockoff.

I just went through the exact same problem. Replaced it with the Bryant receptacle and it worked, no issues. I got the defective Hubbell from the electrician who did the install, so I don't know where he sourced it from.

EDIT: For any Canadians reading this, the best place to get the Bryant is from the Grainger eBay store here. You'll also pay an extra $21 CAD to DHL for duty fees. It's a bit pricey, but it's the cheapest option I've found for an industrial grade receptacle in Canada. The Hubbell receptacle was selling at a local supply shop for $202 CAD.

Cool that the new receptacle fixed the issue. The problem with counterfeit products has been around for a while. I first experienced counterfeit metric fasteners purchased from a Toyota dealer back in the middle ‘80s.

If you guys bought it from Amazon, what was your sellers name? I just bought a Hubble that is arriving soon and hopefully don't run into this issue of counterfeit.

Amazon seller was AA LUMINOUS. I feel more like it was a scam because they ghosted me when trying to get a return. I was past the normal window, so Amazon wouldn’t do it automatically.

I would suggest you don’t take the risk. Return it immediately and get the Bryant from Grainger. You could test the connection with the dongle from the mobile EVSE. But who knows if that would be a full proof.

There are lots of fakes on Amazon. Even items where Amazon is the seller are suspect (maybe even more so) due to folks returning fakes.

Never thought I would say this but it's better to buy off of ebay from reputable sellers as some previous posters have recommended.

Agree, nobody should be buying a 14-50 outlet from Amazon.com. Return it and buy one from a reputable professional supply house like Granger. It's too important to risk it being defective or counterfeit.

This is a fault of being "too young to be this old" farting brain. I ordered a Bryant and for some reason, I typed Hubbell. The Bryant 14-50 is what's on the way.

The worst part about realizing I'm slipping is the realization itself.
