Most of the people commenting on this thread have been on this forum for quite some time with me and I know they are joking. People like Scooby Macc and Poodle are just having fun with it.

This is surprising that the trim would be so soft.

This doesn't address the issue, but if your left arm gets cramped and you don't want to rest it on the window sill, and we don't care about the recommended steering wheel/hand positions, I'd suggest holding the steering wheel with your left hand at 12 o'clock and driving like that - let's you stretch your arm out.

In general I rest my elbow there, sometimes it's while holding the steering wheel, sometimes it's while propping my head up and other times holding onto the "oh-shit" bar. I know I could probably buy an arm cushion or re-train myself, but I've never had to worry about this in any other car that I've owned.

In the USA what you described is a Twink without the "ie" as @macchiaz-o described.

I've had the same thing happen on other Ford cars I've owned in the past. Mostly the Fusion and Explorer. The explorer had a recall to replace it because it also started to just detach from the door. So that was fun.
