So I had some time to do a little testing today. It was prompted by some other thread discussions where we were trying to figure out what the MME is doing to precondition the battery and where it was drawing power from.
The first thing I wanted to find out is what the car would do if I set a departure time with the cabin temp set to Off. I set a 1 pm departure time and waited. At 12:31 I got the usual notification that the desired charge level would not be reached by my departure time. This has always been an erroneous message for me since the car is already at the desired charge level of 90%.

The MME also connected to my network. The ambient temp in my garage was ~97 degrees. As you can see in the screenshot it tells me it's preparing for drive. The only action I found the car taking was the coolant pump seemed to be running. The grille shutters were closed and there was no fan operation. It also did not draw any "shore power". The ChargePoint shows no draw during the 12:30-1 period. Since it is unclear what the "ideal" battery temp parameter is in the software this may be completely normal.

At about 1:10 I found I could no longer hear the coolant pump. The car showed no decrease in SOC even though it did not draw power from the house.

At this point I backed the car out of the garage so I could do some cleaning.
Finished my cleaning and pulled back in the garage and plugged her in.
Went inside to get cleaned up to head out to dinner.
About 10 minutes before I was going to leave I remote started the car. Much to my surprise, even though it was plugged in it did not draw any '"shore power'" during the remote start event. Typically when I am using a departure time it draws at about 3.3kW for around 30 minutes to cool the cabin down.
I'm not sure what to make of the departure time with cabin temp Off results. It would be interesting to run that test again when it is either hotter or colder to see if that prompts more aggressive action from the car.
As far as the remote start vs departure time, today's results indicate that you should definitely use the departure time if you want to be sure that the car is using "shore power" to condition the cabin. As always, YMMV. Thanks for attending my TED talk. ?

Interesting, must be more factors involved with the remote start. I currently don't have any departure times setup, no consistently with my schedule at the moment. It's starting to get colder here and when I remote start the heaters are pulling from shore power. Only about 4 KW but it is definitely pulling from the ChargePoint and not the battery.

About 50 degrees when this chart was created.

Interesting. That's what my graph looks like when I use a departure time to cool the cabin.

I was wondering about this too. I’ve noticed that preconditioning uses shore power, I can see the blue light on my ChargePoint pulsing. Today when I remote started the car it was not pulsing/drawing shore power. I can also tell because when it’s preconditioning and I unplug the car, I can hear the relay on the CP click, but remote start it doesn’t. So no power was being drawn. Why would it do that I wonder?
