Didn't take long for Ford to take the EV tax credit

This isn't the same market we had a year ago. The 2023 Maverick pricing was just released and the XLT base price only increased by $80. A loaded Lariat is about $1k more. This is absolutely in response to the tax credits. Watch GM walk back their bolt price reduction too.

The link just cites a December 2021 price increase, a lifetime ago. Has MY 23 pricing for the Maverick been announced yet?

Also if GM walks back the Bolt pricing it would be an entirely different scenario given the Bolt is currently ineligible for any credit... And who knows, maybe they don't care that it'll be a loss leader when they are so far behind right now.

Ford doesn’t even qualify for the new tax credits on their EVs cause battery material is sourced from China
They don't qualify for the full amount. They still get the partial. My point stands.

We saw price increases year over year on the MME (without any changes to the tax credits). I don't think there's any correlation here. The Lightning price increases were going to happen regardless of the tax credit situation.
Supply... meet Demand.

Article was from a couple weeks ago. Agree it's not well written but you can order a base Maverick for $20995 right now. Sure the Maverick is cheaper, but it's not seeing the same price hikes. It's crazy to think that the manufacturers aren't pricing the rebates into their vehicles.

If the April 13th price hikes happen... folks are going to be mad here.

$5K or $6K bump for GTPE and I suspect with recent inflation and recall/warranty costs the hike might be $8K.

The Model Y I ordered (now sold) in August 2021 is now $13K+ more expensive. Ford has only increased prices by $3K or so.

I suppose once the 2023 order books open, we'll get a better sense of the repercussions of the price hikes and the new legislation.

Right now, EV makers can't build cars fast enough but that also includes working off back orders. The number of new 2023 orders vs the same time a year ago will be telling.

I think it's crazy to suggest that a $7500 tax credit for 2022 becoming something worse (in some cases $0) is somehow solely responsible for a price increase

I'd suggest editing the post I quoted as '23 Maverick pricing has not yet been released.

Come on guys. Tax credit of 7.5k and price increase of 7.5k. if one of the other OEMs did this, we would have a huge thread on it.

PPI is up 18% year on year. The price increases are going to keep coming regardless of the tax credit.

Example: Silverado 1500 started at $29,300. A few price hikes later, the base 2022 Silverado now costs $33,800 before destination fees. That’s 15% price jump in a few short months. No EV credit involved.

When crazy people are paying 10-20K over, Manufacturers want a slice. Once the market collapses, it going to be crazy. Then the bailouts comes.

Oh yeah it’s the tax credit and not the bath Ford has taken on EV profits
They make more on a Platinum ICE F150 BY FAR than they do the Lightning.

What people fail to realize is the material for the Batteries like the world's cobalt originates from the Democratic Republic of Congo, while China, Indonesia, Australia, and Brazil make up the lion's share of global nickel reserves, and South America's 'Lithium Triangle' consisting of Bolivia, Chile and Argentina hold 75% of the world's lithium.

A real world example is A plan, Ford Employee Discount, gets me $2500-$4300 off an ICE F150 depending on trim level. The Lightning is 4%. ICE vehicle profit is what's paying for Ford's R&D.
Look up the Energy Credits and Grants Tesla got to make their cars a reality. BEVs cost so much to build, the Vietnamese EV maker sells you the car and they own the battery and their vehicle still starts at $55k.

If the market collapses, the crazy ADM’s will disappear. I think that the MSRP was initially too low . Now that the demand is there, the manufacturers should benefit.

My feeling is that the price increase on the Lightning is related to a number of things, including the significant RIvian price increase from a couple months ago (which I believe was even bigger). It's still the only real competition out there. Inflation is obviously at play as well.

I don't think it's solely related to the tax credits because that tax credit has been available all through 2022 for everyone on every Lightning. Less people will even qualify for it in 2023 due to income limits.

I was wavering on the Lightning. Figured I might get it and sell the Mach-E next year. If it's +$90k for a Lariat without rebate, I'm out.
