I see a lot of love on these boards for the MME, but I don’t think I’ve seen many posts like mine. I don’t know if I just got a clunker or if my experience is the rare outlier, but I’m really disappointed with my MME. There’s actually a lot I like about it but the things I dislike are making me regret getting it, because they’re all things that I’ve had in other cars that worked as they should, all the time. With the MME, there are issues with the tech but they’re intermittent, so it’s not as if I can bring it to the dealer and get them fixed.

I leased the car in December 2023 so I’ve had it one year, two left in the lease term. I am kind of looking forward to the end of the term so I can unload it and move on to something more reliable. I update over WiFi when it’s sitting in my driveway and the software is up to date, so I don’t think that’s the issue. Here are some of the problems I’m experiencing, and I’d be curious to know if anyone else also has these issues.
  • Auto “walkaway” door lock- this works most of the time but maybe 1 time out of 20 it doesn’t. For example, I park in the same spot at work each day and I usually hear the lock/chirp when I’m almost out of the parking lot, but every now and then, it hasn’t chirped by the time I get to the door of the building. I have to walk partway back to the car to lock the doors with the remote. I have “lock/chirp” anxiety.
  • Rain-sensitive wipers- often the wipers will be wiping when the windshield appears to be completely dry. Other times, it’s actively raining and they don’t wipe. I have the auto wiping set correctly on the stalk, and sometimes it works properly, but about half the time it doesn’t.
  • Speed-sensitive volume- this doesn’t work at all. The volume doesn’t turn down when I come to a stop and it doesn’t get louder as I drive. Sometimes I’ll be driving at a steady speed and the volume will suddenly increase, then maybe a minute later it’ll return to the original volume. It happens on different radio stations and Spotify, so it’s not the station causing the problem.
  • Qi charger- doesn’t work. It recognizes when my phone is set on it (Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra) and it will begin to charge, but after about 5 minutes it stops because it’s overheating the phone.
  • Suspension- this car has the worst suspension of all the cars I’ve had in my life. I feel every bump and crack in the road.
  • Pressing any seat memory button brings up an alert on the dash about the lane-keeping system (??). Bizarre. The alert also often appears when I get in the car and the seat moves forward into driving position.
  • Day/Night lighting on dash- it often gets confused. Sometimes at night, when it’s dark, the dash lights up brightly as if it thinks it’s daytime. Sometimes the dash lighting is correct for the time of day but the nav screen is wrong, sometimes vice-versa.
  • Maybe 1 out of every 20-25 times I get in and start it up, the Bluetooth won’t connect to my phone. I have to stop, put it in park, shut if off and (this is the key), open the door. Then I close the door and start up again and it will connect.
  • When the doors are unlocked and I open the back hatch by pressing the button on the underside of the hatch handle, the hatch opens fully. But when the doors are locked, it opens only a few inches and I have to press it again to fully open. This is annoying.
Any one or two of these things would be so minor that I wouldn’t even mention them, but there are enough that I just feel like I shouldn’t have to put up with all the glitchiness for what this car is and what it cost. I really expected a more refined vehicle and am regretting not going with one of the other cars I was considering.

Sorry for whining, I'm just envious of everyone who doesn't seem to have these issues, as I really wanted to love this car. Counting the days until my lease ends.

There is a software update for this. It’s tied to a TSB so a dealer should do it for free. Honestly few of your other issues might be smoothed out if your software was updated also.

When I drive the car, and it's not giving me problems, it's a great fun car. BUT.... sadly, every other issue I have had with it would make me recommend a different vehicle.

Below is a list of issues my vehicle has had and the work done to it. (still in process)

  • 2x HVJB replacements. (1 of them was the newer recall unit)
  • Multiple failed software updates that needed to have a technician patch
  • the finish on the window buttons is flaking off (unresolved)
  • seatbelt recall
  • ac vents falling off
  • headlights stay on for hours on end, and control unit needs to be replaced (in shop today to replace)
  • backup camera and collision warning system failure (in shop today to replace)
  • was just told from service department "THERE IS A REALLY BAD RATLING COMING FROM YOUR SHOCKS, WE ARE GONNA NEED IT FOR A FEW MORE DAYS"
  • Sync constantly freezes and needs to be rebooted.
I think my car in 3 years has been in the shop for nearly 6 months in total time, yes, 6 months!

I understand I'm an early adopter, but looking at the Tesla's I have rented, and many of my co-workers own, A tesla will be my next car, and I also plan to sell all my ford stock, as this is a sign of things to come, and Ford consistently has dropped the ball on dealing with many other issues I have had. I just don't see a future where they could compete unless they drastically change the way they operate.

Everything but these three works fine for me.
  • The volume adjustment thing might work a little bit, but is completely inadequate. At least there's a volume button on the steering wheel, so it's easy to adjust manually. But I don't understand why Ford seems unable to make such a simple, standard feature work properly.
  • I think a lot of wireless car chargers are bad, including ours. I just plug my phone in with a cable if necessary. If I needed wireless, I'd buy something to make it work properly.
  • The suspension is the only thing that really bothered me. I replaced the springs with progressive springs and it's better now.
Good luck with the next two years, or your next car.

No, but a car company with a decade of manufacturing experience producing a vehicle more reliable that a company with a century of manufacturing experience would be a little closer. Also simple things like responding to customer service issues and working with team Edison directly has been abysmal.

You're whining all right. Obviously never owned a Mustang before. That solid ride is intentional. This is not a sedan. Might want to try a Tesla next time and deal with their issues...and Tesla has its issues.

With the MME, there are issues with the tech but they’re intermittent, so it’s not as if I can bring it to the dealer and get them fixed.
That's honestly the wrong way to think about it. When it does happen - document it. Take pictures. Record video. Take a note on your phone and capture exactly what happened, what you did, what it did or didn't do, etc. Record that and provide that detail to the service department. They can still hook it up and see if there are any modules that need updating or see if there are any trouble codes. But if you're not reporting the issues, they're rarely going to magically fix themselves.

A few of the things you listed, I really think are issues that ANY car could have (and many do already, if listening to my family complain about their other cars is any indication). It's just worse for you because they're compounding with other problems. Some of the others do sound like software issues that you absolutely should be reporting to a dealer for service while it's under warranty, like I mentioned. If you're not and still complaining about them - that's on you.

Outside of that, I think you can make your life a little easier yourself by doing a few simple things... like:

1) Just pretend walk-away lock doesn't exist (or turn it off). Lock your car when you get out of it like you would any other.
2) Turn off the rain-sensing option in the touchscreen.
3) Don't use the wireless charger. I literally taped aluminum foil over mine so it won't even work. It sounds like the problem you're having is that it's not well aligned when you put your phone on it. So it's basically just generating heat instead of actually charging. if you haven't yet, pull the rubber mat out of that tray and see where the charger is and try to line your phone up on that first, see if it's any different.

Sure... you shouldn't have to turn off and not use functions of the car because they don't work correctly - but if you're not going to report them as problems, at least try to make your life better by not being reminded of them over and over again when you drive the car.

I have had times when my car would not connect to my phone and/or when Car Play does not work.
is there a fix for that?

I have what sounds like a rattle from the axels in the rear when cold. Wonder if that's what the dealer is talking about with your shocks.
Sync, is well, it's sync. and in 13 years of me dealing with it it has gotten a little better but now instead of one will thing not working the whole thing craps out. At least I can reboot this one without a 13mm wrench and the hood open like my Focus.

I owned a 2019 Mustang GT convertible and it rode so much better than my Mach E does.

Well this is inline with my personal opinion after owning a MME for almost a year as well. I posted a topic on the french Mach-E owners forum. You can read it here : https://forums.automobile-propre.com/topic/mustang-mach-e-premier-bilan-objectif-64827/
I list the PROs ans CONs of the car, and they are similar to the OP's. I also have the annoying "bright/dark" screen problem, popping randomly, as well as the infamous "phantom central passenger without security belt alarm" problem. Today, I drove to the Airport with a Model Y and it definitly convinced me I made the wrong choice. The MY is roomier, quiter, more comfortable, the screen gives nice informations about the motor, the HVB, the surrounding... No wonder why we see so many of this cars on the road. I'm still waiting for a relevant OTA update from Ford, instead of this useless "enhancements" that don't do anything.

Coming from both a Model Y and. Model 3, don't expect that the ride will be better. The Model 3 suspension is hard and not forgiving. It's tuned like a sports sedan. The Model Y was better than the M3 but not better than my 2024 Mach-E. I did hear that Ford made suspension improvements over the years but please don't expect a great ride in a Tesla.

No offense, but some of those bullets are absurdly nit-picky and a lot of them can be broadly applied to many makes and models. However, I for one have crossed off Mitsubishis and Hundais for various reasons, so I get it. Hopefully your next vehicle will be better suited for you.
