do you have a manual to disassemble the steering wheel?

That picture of the back of the airbag cover is the one thing stopping me from buying a leather wrapped replacement. I've always hated the plastic airbag cover with visible and physically sharp mold lines around the edges. The leather wrapped ones look awesome, but the back shows the cover is clearly designed to split open at those seams when the airbag deploys. Without some sort of perforation or relief cuts to weaken the leather, I'm not going to chance it.

Edit: See attached pic of a deployed airbag. Definitely splits in the H pattern shown on the back of the cover. I wonder if Miguel can weaken the leather somehow so it still splits open the same way without resistance?

I highly doubt that the expansion/explosion of that airbag can be contained by a piece of fabric glued to the surface.

But I hope I never have to find out, of course.

Hi, in order to disassemble the steering wheel, you need to remove it. In order to remove it, you need to remove the airbag first. While I have had my steering wheels on and off many times, I don't usually recommend someone doing this unless they know what they are doing. It is not all that hard, but you need to make sure you follow all safety warnings.

Below are pages from the Mach-E service manual on removing the driver airbag and then removing the wheel. If you do get this done and want to see some photos of how to take the trim and buttons out of the steering wheel, let me know and I will take some photos. I have a spare steering wheel or two I can take it apart and shoot some photos. You basically just remove the trim and the buttons come up with it and they are mounted to the trim with small torx screws.
