Have you tried another L2 charger to rule out a problem with yours?

So, I tried two different chargers to ā€œproveā€ that the problem was with the car and not the charger. Fully expecting the problem would be with the car, I was surprised when it didn’t throttle/derate with the first 9.6kw charger. Fluke, I thought. Maybe it’s cooler outside (and it was, high 40s). Then I went to a paid 80a charger fully expecting the issue would recur. It didn’t. Charged at 10.5-10.3kw on ford pass app for nearly an hour without overheating. When I disconnected the charger, the pins on the charger were markedly cooler by touch (warm vs uncomfortably hot). This all points to the one free charger I’ve been using as the culprit. No overheat code thrown. No derating. I wonder if my original charge port wasn’t even bad, though the ford dealer did indicate they reproduced the problem on their charger. In either case, I’m cancelling my appointment and happy. I’ll keep an eye on the problem, but maybe if it happens again, it is in fact the charger that is the issue and not the car. My car scanner temps even read much higher and still no derating of charge Speed. Car ambient outdoor temp on vehicle screen: 58. Dc charger coupler: 136.4. Chg ac temp: 168.8. Ac charger coupler: 158. Ac input v: 238.27 (varies a few volts). Ac input a: 47 and didn’t vary at all. Thanks for the suggestion. I really though I was going to rule out the idea and turns out the one particular public charger appears to be the issue.

Report that problematic charger as "BAD" on PlugShare and try to contact the owners of that site.
