Is there an extension cable for Tesla super chargers? The times i can't charge because all the slots are bracketed by backed in Tesla's, or i feel bad because I'm basically taking up two spots in a weird way bugs me.

Am extension cord would fix this issue

Looks like that one goes from Tesla charger > Adapter or MagicDock (CCS plug) > extension cord > car

Never heard of the company before. Don't know if I'd fully trust it.

@A2ZEV is a known quantity and trustworthy

EDIT:
I just looked at that EVBase extension cord again and noticed that it's listed for $700. Ouch! 😳

I'd need to be charging at Tesla chargers a few times a day for that to be worth the money.

Pretty sure the EVBase one has never existed, while A2Z seems to be up to if Tesla ever decides to let them release it or not.

You do not want a dumb extension. You want one that's smart enough to throttle the amperage so the cable doesn't melt.

The A2ZEV extension is still under development. If they can accomplish what needs to be accomplished, it will probably only pass 50-60 kW or so.

An extension would likely be dangerous at any higher amperage (125-150 A).

CEO claims a little better than that:

“So for instance, an example I can give to you, we've tested it on a Rivian R1S and R1T, sorry.

And the charging session started very high, 214, 220 kilowatt. And after a few minutes, it dropped to 170, 150, 130, and it stabilized at 70 kilowatt. So this is not a flagship product, meaning that we don't expect people to rely on the extension cord to have full potential.”

For MachE charge curve it probably won’t be too bad.

Yeah. If they want it to be safe to use in the deserts of the US in summer and not just in Canada, I think they're going to see a larger throughput drop. The temperature of nonmetallic couplings that are handled are supposed to stay below 60 ⁰C, but the summer air in Needles, CA will be nearly 50 ⁰C before the charging session starts. It'll be difficult for the couplings to radiate much heat while passing large currents. Some of us sometimes use a wet cloth to help lower the adapter temperature as it is... And if the extension is long enough to lay on the blacktop, which might be at 60-75 ⁰C already, the cable will exceed safe temperatures (85 ⁰C) within minutes of being plugged in. Unfortunately, I don't think they include temperature monitoring of the cable, just the plugs.

Part of the reason you want an adaptive/"smart" extension instead of just some dumb wire is that with the right engineering, it'll take care of itself. In cold weather, it'll be faster for longer. In hot weather, hopefully the throttling will be enough to keep it within spec.

My recommendation to anyone who buys one when they become available is keep a pair of gloves with it and/or to attach some kind of carrying strap to the cable so they don't have to handle the hot cable directly after a charge.

Tom Moloughney will soon be reviewing a Supercharger extension cord. He announced this on today's Batteries Included podcast.

He didn't give away which company makes this product.
