They are doing it at the factory it sounds like, I'm sure they've got a way more automatic or robotic process they came up with.
Nope.
"An independent network of professional wrap installers will coordinate the work and make sure the job is done as quickly as possible, usually under two weeks from order to completion with the car only out for customization for a few days. The program will roll out in Michigan, Florida, Texas and California and rapidly expand nationwide."

According to this article, starting sometime in early 2024, Ford will offer the option of a vinyl wrap on your MME (among other models) at time of purchase. "60 colors and three finishes (gloss, matte or satin)"

https://www.autoblog.com/2023/10/31/ford-mustang-bronco-wraps-accessory-parts-sema/
I removed the front plate (Ontario Canada) then had an aftermarket wrap put on grill. Gloss black. It was 3M wrap. Be aware of cheap wraps. Sometimes you get what you pay for. Photo attached.

The option’s always been available, just not at factory, and with infinite colours & designs🤷🏼‍♂️

Thought about wrapping with chrome effect Highland Green with some Bullit (or bullet) graphic down the side but can’t bring myself to cover up that beautiful red when I see the sun really bring out the iridescence of that drop-dead gorgeous colour😍

69,000 miles and 28mths and more in love with that car than at collection on day 1😍😍😍😍

Ford is going to use a network of 3rd party wrap installers for this. It's not a factory wrap or a dealer thing (yet). You'll have to schedule it online and drop off your car for a week or so. They will only use high quality wraps specifically approved by Ford. As mentioned it's initially only going to be available on select vehicles in a few select states.

Price is expected to be around $4000-$5000, which is in line with the market cost for a SUV. Will have a 2 yr/24k warranty (automatic car washes can void warranty). Is recommended to be removed after two years.

It's interesting that this article has a picture of a Mach E when the announcement text from Ford only says Mustang, indicating this may not be an option for the Mach E. It's also only available in certain states.

Here's Ford's announcement:

  • A Ford Ranger built for overlanding and a Bronco built for the beach show opposite extremes of the Ford Performance Parts line
  • The Ford Performance Mustang FP800S adds extreme performance and menacing style to seventh-generation icon
  • Ford Vinyl Wraps offers customers 60 colors in satin, matte, or gloss finishes to personalize Bronco, Explorer, F-150, and Mustang
LAS VEGAS, Oct. 31, 2023 – Ford Performance Parts is showing custom concept packages at this year’s SEMA Show that will be available to customers starting in 2024. This first taste of what’s to come will show how owners can turn their Ford vehicle into a rolling showcase that reflects their personal taste, attitude, and love of their vehicle.
"Ford customers love to personalize the performance and appearance of their vehicles, especially Mustang, Bronco and Ranger," said Mark Wilson, Ford North America Vehicle Personalization manager. "The Ford Performance parts packages we're debuting combine the latest design trends with aftermarket accessories engineered to work with these vehicles out of the box."
Developed in response to customer feedback, these packages will be available via the Ford Performance Parts website or through a dealer accessory counter. Pricing for each package will be available nearer each package’s on-sale date, while either a Ford dealer or ASE-certified shop can perform the installation.
The packages fall into four categories: Off-road capability, street performance, aesthetic parts, and unique vehicle graphics.

New Custom Vinyl Wraps Available for F-150, Mustang, Bronco, and Explorer

Ford has offered vehicle wraps and graphics for more than a decade, but now it’s going even further with custom vinyl wraps in 60 colors and three different finishes (gloss, satin, and matte) through Ford Vinyl Wraps. Customers owning select vehicles will be able to select their car, truck, or SUV online in early 2024 and preview the available wrap colors to see what it will look like.
Ford engineering teams have selected high-quality vinyl wraps and developed special installation techniques to ensure sensors and driver assist systems work as designed. An independent network of professional wrap installers will coordinate the work and make sure the job is done as quickly as possible, usually under two weeks from order to completion with the car only out for customization for a few days. The program will roll out in Michigan, Florida, Texas and California and rapidly expand nationwide. It will be available for certain newer model year F-150, Mustang, Bronco, and Explorer vehicles.

So, you're saying the Mach-e is "NOT A MUSTANG"? 🤣

Looks like they are copying Tesla, hopefully they get it right with this one.

It will be available for the Mach-E. The independent shops will be ford certified to make sure there’s some QA attached. Per Mach-Lee (who always provides good info, high quality films will be used and there will be a reasonable warranty. I look forward to playing around with the configurator website and maybe getting my next purchase pre-wrapped.

What happens with wraps if you get a stone chip? Do they start to peel off or something? Can they be fixed?

If the stone tears all the way through the vinyl then it’s generally hosed and that body panel would require re-wrapping. But it will generally protect the paint underneath.
I got shotgun blasted by a plow spreading salt and gravel last winter. Took a couple small gouges out of the vinyl on the front bumper. I used a hole punch on my spare vinyl and just applied the little dots as patches over the holes. Only I know it’s there and half the time even I can’t find them.
Unfortunately I got a bigger chip right along the front edge of the hood that went through the vinyl striping, the main vinyl, and took the paint off the hood. I had to cover the bare metal with touch up paint, which being DMG blends well enough with the black stripe. Having the whole hood rewrapped would be better but would also be $500 (or about $100 if I did it myself). Not quite worth it for the 5mm blemish.

Most films are good for 2-4 years depending on the manufacturer Ms recommendation. Too long the vinyl and glue will separate and it won’t peel right leaving glue on your paints clearcoat.
I plan to pull mine at 3 years. Maybe 4 if it’s still in good shape. I’ve already picked the next color I want.

Thanks. I would not have guessed. I'm too frugal to lay out that kind of dough every couple years.

My first new car was a '67 Mustang coupe, color was the dark Highland Green (I believe that was the name)......when reserved, then ordered my '21 Select I was hoping for that same color, kind of like bookends, my first new car a green Mustang. and possibly my last new car a green Mustang (plus I like the color)......I'm 76 and now have a '23 Premium in red, love it......

I don't think I would ever spend an extra $4000+ for the wrap no matter how much I like that green, haha.....here's hoping that Ford will add the green to their paint lineup while I'm still driving, haha

PS....that '67 was traded for a station wagon, my wife was expecting our son, and we had 2 dogs, a big female black lab and a mutt.....the mustang was not going to work.....the kids where I taught, busted me for years, a real drop in the cool factor, haha.....almost as bad as when I went from a Harley to a Windstar mini van in the early 2000's......I did ride the Harley to school in nice weather, haha

thanks for letting me remember those days.....
