Hello @Mach-e4x, I'm not a lawyer, so please check your own laws to ensure you're properly educated. That said, my understanding is no, this does not void your warranty. Ultimately you're simply applying updated software that was made available by Ford with a Ford Software tool.

Now, should something go totally sideways and you can't pull yourself back out of it, I don't think that Ford would necessarily be required to get you back to stable footing free of charge. Similar to how a botched repair at an independent repair shop doesn't suddenly become free warranty work if the independent shop screws up.
Thanks for the information.
When you say "software" update does that update the Sync Operating system that controls the module or is it like a Firmware update to the module itself?

It has the potential to do everything, depending on what is available for your VIN. Update Module Firmware + Sync. Recommend this thread as the best Source of Truth for how the process actually works.

@kmusk01 @MustThee? I ended up taking the plunge myself. I bought the Mongoose adapter, a high end battery tender, and a 48hour FDRS license on my gaming desktop that lives in my garage basement. I did 10/11 module updates available with exception the CCM (Camera Control Module). It got me the faster charging curve above 80% and a bunch of other things (different brake modulation/regen behavior). I didn’t bite on the CCM since I already have BlueCruise and have no concerns, I didn’t want to take a risk and end up accidentally moving backwards.

I experienced zero issues throughout the process.

Happy to coordinate in the DMs if you want to leverage my setup. I’d use the same general rules as others have here:

1: I’ll help you get setup and running, but when it comes to touching your car or pressing the buttons in FDRS, it’s your responsibility and you bear all risk on your own. Obviously I’d be there the whole time to help and guide you, but it’s your car and your update to execute.
2: Do your diligence before hand. One thing I have not done with these updates is BlueCruise and/or any live driving Camera Calibrations. If any of that is required you’d likely need to bring your own PC Laptop with you.

Kevin, glad to hear you were able to get setup and complete updates without issues. I will definitely take you up on the offer. My 1.7.1 update is stuck somewhere in the cloud, it had been showing pending for weeks while the car shows it was completed. Because I will need to go to the dealer anyway for BC, I am thinking I will give another dealer who is real close to me a try since Town and Country experiences were bad. And if it doesn’t work then either I come to leverage your setup or look into getting myself setup. thanks!

@MustThee? keep me posted on which dealer as I am also stuck on 1.7.1 VERY tempted to buy and do this all myself, but my biggest fear is actually doing the 1.7.1 update. I think once I see this done once in person even FDRS I would be fine.
@ElectrifyCLT I will keep ya posted if I take the plunge and just want some kind of "hand holding" for the first few modules. Since I have a Job1 car I know its going to take nearly all 48 hrs to get everything done, depending on how smoothly things go.

I can hold your hand and guide you through the process. I just won’t touch your car or physically press buttons for you ;)

I couldn't be happier that I ultimately took this on myself. I attempted to get an appointment at Town and Country Ford here in Charlotte to diagnose my included Ford EVSE flashing Blue/Amber and.

1: They couldn't even find my appointment. I had called 6 weeks ago and set up this time.

2: Was told they only have one EV guy. At time of Sale I was told they had a handful

3: They asked for the car for the day or two because the EV guy was backed up, all they needed to do was confirm the EVSE was faulty. There's nothing wrong with the car!

Stay away from those guys. It's a mess over there.

Its pretty sad that the dealership is not able to help much. I know when I bought my car from them last year I was their first sale of the Mach-e and they didn't know really anything about it. A week after I bought it needed to bring it in to get my detail done, and fill up the washer fluid as it was never filled :(

I am taking the plunge this weekend on getting my car updated, hopefully all the way to BC. I have everything printed out and ready to go.

I had scheduled at fort mill ford and had included all bulletin numbers in the appointment notes asking them to call me if there were any issues with the appointment reason. No call but when I got there this morning, the service advisor was very clear that they are afraid of running any updates as it bricked another car. They have only handled 2-3 cars so far and not much luck. They feel that Ford has not fixed all issues with the updates so they don’t want to do it. So I stay stuck!

I am watching the other thread where you are discussing some issues with updating. After the failed attempt at another dealer today, I am getting closer to wanting to do this myself too.

The failed issue was my own fault by not hooking the negative to the post :( Rookie mistake for sure and cost me nearly a whole day of no updates.

I am now unstuck from 1.7.1, and was able to do a few updates yesterday morning before I had to leave for other plans for the day. The trick was to leave the drive door open, walk away for 10 min, sit in the car, close drivers door and turn the car on. Then it would update with no issues via the USB.

I plan to buy another 2 day license in a few wks when I am home again and have time. Might even take 2 days off of work and do it during the week so not waste my weekends.

Knowing what I know now I am not that scared to continue on and feel like so far its been worth the money for everything. The 1.7.1 procedure to get unstuck took all of 10 minutes and VERY simple to do. Hardest part is getting into the footwell to get the cable unplugged.

Kevin on here came over to lend a hand, and the forum members via chat were VERY helpful.

Thanks,

Ken~

Ok good to know. I am going to look into getting setup myself. I need to buy Mongoose Plus J2534 and Clore PL6100, right?

This is everything that I bought/used:

- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MS9R0Z9?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003L14VLY?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097NHQ7ZW?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00007IFED?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001XURP8Q?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Last piece is an ethernet cable and female mini usb to female usb like this one, but I already had:
https://www.amazon.com/Pack-Female-...0+mini+female+to+female,electronics,72&sr=1-5

Most everything came in a few days and so far has been worth it. I leave this Wed for work till next week, but thinking I might take a few days off mid next week and knock out more updates.

Before you buy the license be sure everything works on the laptop you plan to use. Get all the drivers needed and verify the computer recognizes everything. This thread and the video in this thread go over everything needed to start: https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...ach-e-with-fdrs-alternative-to-forscan.10217/

I set the laptop in the passenger seat, and then used a different computer to remote in into it. This way I didn't have to stay sitting in the car, or move the laptop around while it was plugged in.

Thanks,

Ken~
