Appreciate the replies.

One more silly question...

Does having the the car constantly plugged mean a significantly higher electrical bill? I was trying to be "frugal" by only plugging it in when needed the night before.

I am now thinking that was bad of me. This is my first EV.

Last stupid question for the night (maybe). What happens if I have set departure time but I do not leave for hours after that. Will the car try to keep the cabin warm/cool for all that time waiting for me to leave?

Thanks

The car will use very little power when plugged in and not charging. There will be some exception to that if it is below freezing or above 100, in those cases it will condition the battery. There is a timeout on the preconditioning, I think it is 30 minutes.

My monthly electric bill when up approximately $2 over my actual charging costs leaving it plugged in 24/7. That is cheap insurance for the 12V battery.

No more meaningful energy consumption vs leaving it unplugged. I think it times out after 15 minutes. Might be 30 min.....Will have to look it up. Sometimes you can set departure times without any cabin preconditioning. My Focus Electric was that way but I don't know if the MME has that option. ???

When setting a departure time there is an Off option for cabin temperature. Theoretically that would just warm or cool the battery. ??

Yes, I think so. It might operate the seat and steering wheel warmers. I don't remember for sure. Will find out in 3 or 4 months hopefully. :)

Our Wrangler 4xe doesn't have sn option for departure times. It does have heated seats and steering wheel though. Will probably have to remote start to turn those on and precondition the cabin. Luckily that isn't my daily driver.....the wife will have to figure out what works best in that regard. :)

Wonder if there could be a manual HV relay connector, just so you would not be stranded if the LVB bit the dust…

When picking up our Mach-E from the dealership? How can we check to see if it has the latest software builds and patches? I rather not have to rely on the dealership.

Cyanlite,

Hyundai has such a button on their new EV, allowing the 12V to be jumped from the High capacity batteries. I hope that idea catches on to other markers.

Bs1055,

I asked my dealer that same question. To see if the SW patch had been previously installed. There appears to be no way to check. I guess there is windows icon to see what SW version you were running. Only thing installed as a service, warranty, etc show up in their records.

There is no way for us as owners to check without purchasing a VIM and FDRS access but the dealer can absolutely check what versions of software are installed.

The car’s 12V battery was well and truly dead, aka “depleted”. The solution was to install the TBS 21-12091 software update. They said it took two attempts. The first did not stick and the second attempt did. The 12V was not replaced and there appears to be no problem with the main battery pack. I have confirmed my vehicle was built in June 2021. Based on internet knowledge this should not have been an issue with a later build, but here we are. I recommend if you are buying a Mach E please ask your dealer to ensure this SW patch is installed.
I'm glad you got it resolved. Unfortunately, my dealer (Earnhardt Ford) will not install updates like this one unless the symptoms develop and are documented. I understand dealers don't get reimbursed by Ford for their time and labor if they are preventing a potential issue than repairing a problem.

In any of the other Phoenix area owners know of a dealership will do these updates upon request, please let me know. Thanks!

I recommend Chapman Ford in Scottsdale. Tell them you have loud fan noise when charging and provide the TSB number. Look through the other TSBs posted on here and see if anything else fits issues you're having/your build date. If so, phrase your concern to the service advisor in a way that matches up with the bulletin. That way when they file the warranty claim with Ford they can get paid.

Ford learns.....
Message sent out to all dealers to check 12v system for situations like this.
Interesting to note that about 10v is required to start these modules. It used to be 9v for earlier models (2000-2015 era). I bet the extra power is necessary to close the contactors and pre-charge the smoothing capacitors?

SSM 50151 - 2020-2021 Explorer/Aviator Hybrids, 2021 Corsair Hybrid/F-150 PowerBoost/Mustang Mach-E - No-Start With Stop Safely Now In The IPC

Some 2020-2021 Explorer/Aviator Hybrids, 2021 Corsair Hybrid, 2021 F-150 PowerBoost, and 2021 Mustang Mach-E vehicles may exhibit a no-start with a Stop SafelyNow warning message in the instrument panel cluster (IPC). The vehicle may haveone or more of the following DTCs P0A23, P0A6F, P0A72, P0A75, P0A71, P0A74, P0A77, P0DFA, P06B1, P0A47, P1A0E set by the secondary on-board diagnostic module C(SOBDMC) or secondary on-board diagnostic module B (SOBDMB). This may be due toa drop in the 12-volt circuit. These DTCs will often occur at vehicle key-on and may be difficult to reproduce. Before replacement of the SOBDMC or SOBDMB, diagnose any low voltage DTCs (P0562, U3003) in other modules in the 12V system. Iflow voltage (less than 10V) is observed in these DTCs snapshot, diagnose the 12v system first. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 418-00.

Ford should put this and other metrics about the car on an info screen. LVB voltage level, HVB voltage level, HVB temperature, Energy flow (amps) out/in, etc. Very easy to do so why not? At least they could have given a warning about lower level on the 12v battery. I have a standard ICE car in which the 12v battery failed overnight in the garage. When I turned it on the next morning I got all kinds of warning messages about brake failure, transmission failure .... I jumped started the car and went to get a new 12v battery which fixed everything.
