I’m ready to unload my ‘17 Cayenne turbo, so it’s pretty much an even swap. The Cayenne E-Hybrid just isn’t green enough for me (ha ha) and I like making changes.

Got the snow tire thing worked out, just don’t have the darn car yet!! Went with Pirelli Scorpion Winters.

What made you go with the pirelli winters? I just picked up my GTPE and I need to make a winter tire decision in PA or my mach e will sit in the garage.

My decision was based on current reviews, plus I used Blizzak (can’t remember model) 2 seasons and then switched to the Scorpion Winter on my M-Class AMG and really liked the Winter best. I think the M tires were a 265/45r20 and in fairness any tire struggles in that width in deep snow or ice. But, it was night and day switching from the Blizzak to the Winters my third season. I thought they were quieter on the highway, have great wet and dry traction, plus thread wear was vastly improved. So I expect them to perform equally as good in the 245/45.

i personally think the vehicle traction control technology means more than the tire if you don’t drive stupid in the snow. It was virtually impossible to lose control in the ML or the Cayenne even if you tried to get sideways. This is why I’m hopeful the winter testing video from Ford isn’t BS.

Shoopla, I appreciate you bringing us back to the real world usefulness of an SUV with the points you raised. And I wanted to re-share this link to Ford’s Winter Testing of the Mach E because it’s not just about the 0-60.

This was another factor in my decision because I need a year round, all wheel drive, daily driver SUV (Kids, Dog, NY winters) and the Mach E fits that need. I have a lot of go fast toys that unfortunately sit in my garage 7 months a year, probably 9 if I count rainy days too. But I also like my daily driver to have some get up and go as well and I am fortunate that I can buy the GTPE trim when the Select trim would more than suffice to get around town.

I would love to convert my Shelby Cobra or Mustang to all-wheel drive, but that doesn’t mean I’d drive them in winter or throw my wet muddy Shepherd in them. Wow- the thought of wet mud anywhere near one of my toys just made me shudder!
Wow that video looks like fun. Makes me want to take one of those Bridgestone Winter driving courses!

I agree.

(If these next few sentences sound like I am mad or defensive, trust me, it was not meant that way. I just hate to think I might have been unclear or misunderstood.)

I was curious about real world performance. I am not planning on being reckless, those days are far behind me. I guess there is no short way of explaining getting caught behind someone that is doing the speed limit on I-40 heading into Memphis, when everyone else is doing 10 over. Then trying to pass when you get an opening. In a situation like this, is accelerating from 70 to 80 fairly easy? Quick or laborious? Does it feel like it is so slow that it is unsafe?

Also, great point about not hearing a car coming, I had never even thought about that. I only remember hearing cars that were either really loud or equipped with emergency sirens. I am going to try to remember to drive to work tomorrow with the stereo off to check this out.
The point about “hearing a car coming,” I honestly don’t agree with.

Outside of an extremely loud exhaust or a motorcycle at full tilt, you aren’t going to hear any car “coming” on the highway. BEV or not…… unless you are also driving a very quiet BEV with the radio off.

As far as passing speeds go, it’s fine. It’s just not “GT fine.” It’ll pass just like a premium 4x.

From my experience, cruising at ~70mph on the hiway, it will accelerate from 70 to the low 90s fairly quickly. Nothing to be concerned about. Its not "holy shit" fast at that speed but its faster than most cars, I would say.

I can understand why some buyers are disappointed with the passing power of the GT. I would expect it to blow away our premium 4X!! The only thing the GT has that I want is the grille! Lol

Well it's a loaded Gen 2 Raptor, so it's pretty sweet.

Those really are damn pretty. If Ford really wants Rivian's and Hummer's lunches, they need to EV that sucker up (and yes I am aware Ford owns part of Rivian).

Yes, I know you don't have one, that's my point. What do you hope to achieve by continuously posting in defense of a vehicle you don't own and have probably never even driven?

GTPE. I live in SE MI. Last week I replaced the OEM tires with Pirelli Scorpion Winter 245/45 20 on the factory rims. I'll put the OEM tires back on in the spring!

Do you plan on routinely changing the tires on the existing summer rims? I'm in the same position here in Toronto, and expect delivery this January....when the snow is here.
That is such a hard question that I still struggle with. I’d like to move to a 265/40R20 which is the same size (circumference) tire but almost 1 inch wider. Which means it won’t fit on the factory wheel. So I will probably keep winter tires on the factory wheel and buy a lighter, all black summer wheel with new summer tires. My GTPE is Iconic Silver, so an all black wheel would look better in my opinion. Plus, I like the ability to just swap my own tire setup and not have to rely on a wheel shop to do it which always risks damage to the tire or rims.

Agreed, I wouldn't want to risk putting tires on and off the factory GTPE rims due to scratching, and you can probably find a more affordable set that you won't mind getting ruined with the perils of winter driving (snow covered curbs and potholes). Would also recommend going to a higher profile tire with a smaller rim for the snow tires. Not sure how readily available they'd be at this size That's what I do on my other car. The GTPE will be a garage queen when the snow hits.

I have a question for GT owners.

With two fobs, is one a primary for setting up the Paak or are both equal?

I’m also in PA and it has been pretty cold this week. I ordered my winter tires for my GTPE today. Hopefully they don’t take too long. Should I also order new rims? I actually love the OEM rims.
