I do not believe this is accurate as Ford is planning a future EV venture with Rivian. Rivian has shown off a cross-over prototype that will be developed in the future (2023?).

I really like the clearance for a sport CUV with off-road capability. With under 6” clearance, the Mach E is not an off-roader’s choice without major mods.

My thought is less off-road and more on-road with snow. That low ground clearance is a significant disappointment to me. A few more inches would be much more preferable. And also would have raised the driver seat up more which I would have loved.

But I guess that depends on if one's tastes are more for the sports car or more for the SUV (actually CUV) that the Mach-e tried to bridge. I'd have preferred more toward the latter. Heck, one of the big advantages of the batteries in the floor is low center of gravity, so it seems like they could have easily raised it all up 2 more inches.

I can see why Ford didn’t raise the Mach E. More clearance reduces efficiency and sports car handling. Variable suspensions add cost, weight, and complexity. Of course the iPace starts at ~$70k, too.

Yeah, no way on the i-Pace. Just checked inventory around here and they're all $80k+. Even with tax credits that's not even close to what I'm willing to spend.

I wouldn't think they would need to make the suspension any different, but yeah, I think they just went more for the sports car look and handling. Although I betcha with the battery in the floor, the handling would have still been pretty darn good with it all sitting 2" higher. But that would have pushed it even further away from "Mustang" though and more toward "Escape", and they didn't seem to want that.
