Ford BlueOval City Site Prep Begins Ahead Of Construction

Ford BlueOval City – a massive, sprawling complex that represents a $7 billion dollar investment in electrification for the automaker – was revealed last September and has since garnered a ton of press and local praise for the fact that it will create thousands of jobs in an area that sorely needs them. Now, after a number of preliminary steps to get to this point, CEO Jim Farley has revealed that the construction of this new facility is nearly underway as the site is currently being prepared.

When finished, Ford will produce a number of electric vehicles – including an as-yet-unnamed next-generation electric Ford F-Series model that will ride on its own dedicated platform – as well as EV batteries, while also housing a number of the automaker’s suppliers. Ford is obligated to create at least 5,000 jobs at the site to retain its state incentives – which include an $884 million spending package.

The package breaks down into $500 million earmarked for incentives that will go directly to Ford, along with $384 million that will fund infrastructure projects, authority expenses, workforce development, and other services. The corresponding bill that goes along with the funding package also establishes an authority that will oversee the development of the Memphis Regional site, which will be located in Haywood County.

Ford BlueOval City is coming along quickly following FoMoCo’s announcement last year and is already on the map following the selection of subcontractors and contractors for the project. Ford is also aiming to make an impact on education in the area as it invests $50 million in EVs with a goal of producing two million units annually across the globe by 2026.
