so same plug and wiring the same electrician was going to charge +750 more if the use was for EV charging?
Essentially yes but a different electrician. Tried 3 different electricians in my area. All over $1,000 for a “Home Charging Station”. The last electrician I called, I only requested a dryer outlet... $250!

now that is a total rip off! I was thinking that price might come with the charging station

I'll just keep using my ClipperCreek LSC-25 (20 amp) that I installed back in 2013 when I got my Fusion Energi.

Any thoughts on how many miles per hour of charging I'll get with this?

What dealership are you using in DFW? I would try a different dealer. At Maxwell Ford in Austin it is $719.
don't remember as I just wanted to see the price. Some where in Lewisville I think

So your unit is a 240v @ 20 amps. I'd guess around 15 miles per hour?

Someone is going to have to convince me not to get this one by Siemens for half the price:

https://www.amazon.com/Siemens-US2-...?dchild=1&keywords=evse&qid=1602085101&sr=8-7
The Siemens one is 30 amps. That's slower than the included mobile charger.

I'd recommend buying Grizzl E (40 amps, $399-439 depending on cable length and cable type) or waiting for the price for a 2nd Ford mobile charger (32 amps). Alternatively, buy neither and keep your mobile charger in the garage.

Thank you! I can live with that for home charging. In-laws 2 states away just put in a 50 amp plug for when we visit.

It's possible the huge difference between the dryer outlet and the car charger come from :
- bigger cable (instead of an 8 gauge, they must go to 6 or 4 gauge) to handle the higher amps. Bigger cable = costly + harder to work
- Installation of the outlet might be easier than a bulky charger (Weight-wise)
- The breaker might be cost more for a 60 amps ?

At my local store, 6 gauge wire is twice the price of the 8 gauge. Haven't been able to find 4 gauge :(

Look for electrical distributors in your area (like Rexel/Gexpro, or better yet, more local businesses). I work for a small local one, and we stock any sort of wire you'd need, generally at better than big-box store prices. Not all sell to individuals though (only to contractors/electricians with accounts/etc).

Some cool things from the sales page I notice the Ford charger has to consider as opposed to the 3rd party ones:
  1. 3yr warranty
  2. Better Fordpass integration & remote lock + charge rate control features
  3. Replaceable, impact-resistant faceplate (no glass)
  4. That holder that lets you wrap the cable comes included to put anywhere
  5. Nice handle w/ rubber grip
1, 3, and 4 the Grizzl-E has as well. It doesn't have a rubber grip handle, but I don't see an issue with what it has either. You're paying more with the Ford charger for a permanent hardwired setup that will give you a little more charge speed and some integration with the Fordpass app. I can understand the desire to go either way depending on what you need or just plain prefer, but for a lot of people a few hundred dollars in savings is a fair trade off for the extras the Ford charger offers.

At least for a Square D box the breakers were the same cost no matter if it was 30, 40, 50, or 60 amps. All about $10. The wires seems to double in price every step in gauge. I found the 4 gauge to be about twice the 6 gauge. Another reason I just stuck with the 50 amp with a plug. That wire does get harder to handle the thicker it is. The 6 was not too bad - it was manageable.

Don't forget the EVSE 30% Federal Tax Credit that expires 12/31/2020. The credit lowers the effective price of the Ford Charger to $525 and the Grizzl-E charger effective price to $415. That narrows the price differential between the two from ~$200 to ~$110. (I ordered both - the Grizzl-E for outdoors at work and the Ford for the garage at home)
