Ford Intelligent Backup Power for MME

I am really interested in the Ford Intelligent Home Backup Power, that the Ford F-150 Lightning is able to deliver. I was wondering If anyone had any insight if Ford and Sunrun had plans to expand to other vehicles with extended range batteries?

Such as an MME? Not currently, but Ford has said that it’s not impossible.

There is a company who makes a reversing charger that will do the same thing. It’s $5k.

The only Ford vehicle that supports V2H is the F150 Lightning. Ford has said the MME is not currently capable of this. Whether that means that there is an upgrade that could happen or not is up to conjecture.

It will be able to do it - but only for 5 seconds at a time.

Except… He didn’t confirm or deny. He gave a vague reference about OTA capability then said that the F150 was the “Army Knife.” I’m hoping that we will get an OTA update that allows us to use our MMEs for V2H. The realist in me says that the MME will either get nothing or it will be a for dollars upgrade.

Also, the Emporia bidirectional charger is based on the ISO 15118 V2G standard.
I think Ford should commit to supporting that standard.

I would love to implement a backup system that includes a wall battery (maybe 4 kwh) and a bidirectional CCS connection to my MME. Frequently, power failures are local (like we had a few years back during an ice storm). We were without power for 3 days. If we had the above system, I could run the house from the MME for a day, then let the wall battery take over while I drive to a fast charger and recharge the MME. We could operate in that mode for a long time, just like a generac system does.
