I tried to order another Mach E and I noticed a new Line Item called "Difference from MSRP" (see below).

Correct, this is added by the dealer. Have them remove the ADM or find another dealer.

Most certainly a dealer ADM not FORD, as has been said find another dealer. In my area there are two dealers without ADM and all the rest are at a minimum of 5K ADM on Mach E's.
While my dealer will not add ADM to orders placed thru Ford or the dealership, he does add ADM to anything ordered for stock or high demand cars like Shelby's and Mach-1's.

why do they do that? They don't need customers?

They do that because they can.
Some customers will not bother to investigate and search for other options, some places may not have multiple dealerships to choose from, and some people like the OP will think it's the Ford's fee and accept it.

Still don't get it. Seems a little silly to me. Doesn't it worth a few ks of $s to do a little research?.....

Cancel or transfer your order to a different dealer. Call the dealer and ask to speak with GM and just tell him the truth; "your shopping around for a dealer with no ADM's on the Mach E". Don't take a $2K hit. Save that for the Ceramic Coating or after market wheels, ect.....

It's crazy they would add markup at order-time... that is 6-8 months out from delivery.

Find another dealer.

I think regular salespeople make little/$0 money on selling mach-e/ordered cars (what did you, mr./ms. salesperson do to "sell" this car when someone ordered it online and never talked to you?).

This is probably so a dealership can simply make $$ or support existing staff since it's not like they have a ton of inventory to sell to begin with.

Dealership model just probably needs to change eventually when EVs are the dominant products they sell.

There are a couple of variables the dealer can set, one of which being the ADM, and the other being the amount of deposit they want up front. I’ve seen mostly $500 deposits with an occasional $1000, and most dealers don’t charge ADM on the online orders. You certainly have other dealer options available that won’t.

The reality is that the vast majority of automobile buyers (or just people in general), fit into the following descriptions:

- Too lazy to do research
- Naive about pricing, markups, how to buy an automobile in general (or anything else)
- Not smart enough

I have a relative that bought a fancy Jaguar a few decades ago, which I found out about afterwards. She of course paid full sticker. I blew a gasket. Hung up the phone, called the dealership (in a ritzy Florida city) and put on a whole story about what I was looking for, how I had cash, and wanted to pay several thousand below MSRP, TOMORROW. They immediately agreed. Called back my relative and told her what I had done, and she was speechless. Of course she also had no clue that Jaguars of that generation would cost a small fortune in repairs. And it did.

She got a Fusion some years back, and now drives a Fusion Hybrid.
