I think all EVs should have been built this way from day zero, because the network was already in place thanks to Tesla, and the port was open sourced.
The port was 'open sourced' long after the Mache was on the drawing board, and 'open sourced' doesn't mean there was an automotive standard. Nor would that standard mean anyone else could use the network (eg, rivian network now has ccs but only rivian can use it). opening the Tesla network and creating a standard took extra years and only became true in the last few months. Blame elon, he was keeping both the standard and the network as an advantage. in terms of adoption now, blame a combination of the us federal gvt, and ford, who paid off Tesla to open their network.

i know, no one ever wants to think the federal gvt does anything good.

Since you are in Arizona, set up a Tesla account, then go to 59th and Northern in Glendale and try it out. Your car, with no software modification will charge just fine. There are photos of Mach Es charging there on Plugshare.
I wasn't aware of this magic dock, good to know.

Well when they do something good, let me know.

You and me both. Of course I’ll have twice the need since I’ll be pulling a travel trailer behind my Lightning.
Please don't tell us you're still rocking one of those old-school camper trailers that doesn't pull itself. You are supposed to have one of those Airstream eStream concept BEV trailers that uses its own battery pack and motors to extend range. 😜

Why do we need to make a "reservation"? Why don't they just start sending them out to people when they're ready to ship? The only reason that makes sense is because by making a reservation, you're confirming what your current address is, so that they don't send them to the wrong place.

And I would add: so that they send them to those who are chomping at the bit to get one first; those that are less antsy to get one won't be signing up the second it goes live.

I am one of the latter: I haven't DCFC'd since 2021. Well, I did do one DCFC when EVgo first announced their own P&C program that required you to DCFC to set it up.

None of those are on the market yet. They are also very expensive — more than the truck!

Sorry if this point has been made and I missed it, but does Ford have the infrastructure to send us all an adapter? This is going to be handled at the dealer, right? So, go to a dealer and prove to the parts dept. that you don't already have one?

My guess is that the dealer won’t be involved. There will be a website where you enter your VIN and some proof of ownership. The adapters will likely ship from the supplier and not be touched by Ford or the dealer.
My speculation.

That process sounds too logical for Ford. There has to be a few extra steps in there, somewhere. 😱🐩

i'm new to ford so i'm always surprised at the lack of integration between their systems; even those using their SSO.

i have a ford account that i used to order my mach-e. it is also the account that i used for my primary fordpass access which has my VIN and all other car details. i just checked at accessories.ford.com and see it used my SSO credentials and it knows about my rewards points but it has no idea of my address (in my main fordpass and ford credit accounts) nor my vehicle.

just stunning system integration misses.

all this is to say: my guess is they'll run this through some completely new system that still has no idea of data it already has on my ford vehicle ownership. 😏

This made me smile. Accessories.Ford.com... Yes, they can send out parts no problem. Unlikely to be done at the dealership since they have said SEND and said it would ship for free.

If you live on the west coast, it'll be sent from an east coast warehouse by boat through the Suez Canal and the Red Sea, that's the safest route that they've found. And vice-versa for east coast people, a west coast warehouse will send it out on the ship that just dropped off the ones for the west coasters. For those in the middle of the country, they'll be sent to Las Vegas so that they can take Elons tunnel for a few blocks, then back to Vandenberg AFB so that a Space-X rocket can launch them into a polar orbit and hopefully they won't burn up as they're released at the right moment to land in your charging port. Oh yeah, you'll need to leave that open for the foreseeable future.

Easy-peasy!
