FordProtect Tire and Wheel Price

Got a quote for $1,500 for Tire and Wheel protection for 96 months (no deductible). (buying my car tomorrow).

I understand buying insurance is a losing proposition all in all. I have had some terrible luck with cars and am going to just buy some extra warranty for peace of mind.

I have nothing to compare this specific policy to...like how inflated is this? (planning on keeping the car a long time) (also I checked with some of the sites online for the better deal on the extended warranty and they told me I can only buy the Tire and Wheel protection from the dealer I buy the car from).

It's true that you can only buy the tire and wheel package at the time of purchase. But I wouldn't for that price. I've never had an issue with wheels, and you can buy a lot of tires for $1500.

Check older forum posts that discussed extended warranties. The price is the same up to 1 year/12000 miles so you don't have to purchase it today. I bought a Mopar extended warranty through the same online dealer and it's not even in my state.

Save $$ on Genuine Ford Protect Extended Service Plans (ESP) (zeiglerfordesp.com)

They also have a wheel package and discounts if you pay in full. Also, if you wait, you can call and use your ford reward points on it! At least use this for pricing.

IIRC someone posted on here a while back that the OEM 19" wheels were north of $1,200.

There are a lot of used 19" MachE Premium wheels on eBay right now for ~$400-500 each, and a set of four for $1100. If experience with other cars holds out, the price will eventually stabilize around $250-$350 for a good used wheel, and $1000-$1400 for a good used set of four.

Honestly I'm not sure what benefit the insurance is giving you - how many wheels do you destroy every year? Eventually you'll buy new tires anyway, and your Costco/Discount Tire/whoever will offer road hazard protection at much lower prices.

This is my standard advice for situations like this, but if you have $1500 to spend on this, just put it into a separate savings account along with the money you would have spent on your TV's protection package, and your extended auto warranty and your extended washing machine warranty and your phone replacement package, etc., and be your own insurer.

I gave the information in post# 2. The tire and wheel package can only be purchased when you purchase the car. You can’t buy it afterwards like you can with the extended warranty plans.

so I asked them and they said the Tire and Wheel warranty needs to be purchased from the dealer who sells the car. also I don't think the warranty covers wheels and tires...so if I bought it, I'd want it now or never.

I can't imagine how someone can destroy any wheel, except with a blowout. If you hit a pothole and blowout, that damage is covered by your insurance policy.

My wife hit a pothole on an highway near our house going 70. Blew out the rear left. Tire and wheel were $900. Insurance covered $400 due to $500 deductible. Sent in claim form to the State and their panel approved the claim. Only cost was loss of the no claim discount for 3 years, but we already had lost it the year prior, so only lost 1 more year.

I would not buy such a warranty. The cost of good or better aftermarket wheels is about that cost. I purchased a set of new wheels and tires for winter at a cost of about $2000 cdn.
