These are great news for Ford and MME lovers:
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-autos-electric-norway-idUSKCN2DD39H

OSLO (Reuters) -Ford Motor Co’s electric Mustang Mach-E topped Norway’s car sales in May, the first full month of registrations for the crossover vehicle in the small but influential Nordic market, national data showed on Tuesday.

Battery electric vehicles made up 60.4% of all new cars sold in Norway last month, the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV) said, up from 43.1% a year ago as the country seeks to become the first to end the sale of petrol and diesel engines by 2025.

By exempting fully electric vehicles from taxes imposed on internal combustion engines, Norway has turned its car market into a testing ground for automakers seeking a path to a future without fossil fuels.

A total of 1,384 electric Ford Mustangs were registered in May for a 10% share of Norway’s overall car market, ahead of Toyota’s RAV4 hybrid vehicle and Skoda’s electric Enyaq. Tesla Inc’s Model 3 took sixth place.

“Our realistic goal is to remain prominent in the sales statistics for several months to come,” Chief Executive Per Gunnar Berg of Ford Motor Norway said in a statement.

In 2020, electric cars grabbed a 54% share of the overall Norwegian market, outselling the combined volume of petrol, diesel and hybrid engines for the first time on a full-year basis.

By contrast, cars with diesel-only engines have tumbled from a peak of 75.7% of the Norwegian market in 2011 to just 8.6% last year.

The introduction of new models will frequently give a brand a boost as pre-orders are shipped in large numbers, such as the 2019 launch of Tesla’s Model 3, the top selling car in Norway that year.

Ford first presented its Mustang Mach-E to the public in late 2019, giving the U.S. automaker well over a year to build a backlog of orders before customers could receive them.

Ford earlier this year said its car line-up in Europe will be all-electric by 2030.

Only Norway - with that Scandinavian attitude - could get this data on June 1st - no lag time in collecting or reporting the information. But this country heavily subsides electrics cars and relies on renewables a lot. But makes it money off of oil sales to other countries. They can pay for being environmentally cleaner than most by selling polluting oil to other countries.

Yup, electric cars are tax free so we only pay the equivalent of $72000 for the premium model. So cheap.

But there are MANY Norwegian buyers who are stil waiting endlessly for their MMEs. Mine is stuck in Belgium.

Enjoy it when you receive it, can't wait to visit family in Oslo to see how many more electriccars on the road than my last time in 2017

Norway is an amazing country to visit. Their adoption of EVs is incredible. I was a passenger in multiple Tesla Model X and S “taxis” during my time there.

Coincidentally that is also where I first realized the interiors of Tesla’s are pretty awful for $100,000 cars.

To be clear, an ICE is taxed at least 100% (actual percentage varies with engine size, it could be more), plus 25% VAT. EV's are tax and VAT free. So the subsidy is indirect.
Buying electric is the only way for me to afford a new secure car, otherwise it would be a mid-range 3-6 year old ICE. My Mach-E replaces a 12 year old diesel - a very common scenario.

Are the big sales last month because it is new or something else (bit of both)? How do you see it received in Norway?

I am thinking you may be happy with your choice of upgrade. Feels good and solid so far.

It's the lesser known underdog. Audi eTron, Tesla Model3, VW ID4 and Skoda Enyaq are the big sellers. Leaf used to be.

The Mustang is receiving good reviews, but over here the big drawback is no roof load (we need use ski box for skis in the winter and extra luggage in the summer). We also prefer higher towing capacity, since we don't have pickup trucks.

If Ford can fix this it will rock the statistics over time. Now the numbers are inflated because of all the preorders. The numbers in August and September would be more telling.
