That’s usually a fun drive dancing among the pinheads and nitwits that block you on those fantastic curves through the elevations. Add a few semis and it’s pole position II ..

Jes sayin. Sorry to hear…. and you had me at Los Banos. Nothing like the California desert for both beauty and amazingly creepy small towns. Quartzite and Baker come to mind💩
I thought Quartzite is Arizona

I got a ticket for supposedly going 63 in a 60.

I say supposedly because my standalone GPS had me at 60 and the officer gave me the ticket on the basis I passed him and he wasn't speeding so I must have been.
It looks to me like your police department is overstuffed and underloaded.

I've taken I-5 over the Grapevine six times now in my MME Premium (three trips up and back.) No issues. Would not consider driving long distances on the highway in unbridled mode, however.
I don't think that mode matters much. You can drive quite "whisperly" on unbridled

Just stay under 85 and you should be fine.
Be careful with that. I was driving 82 when I was stopped on I210. They claimed that my speed was 92...... I said that I'm sure it was 75. They responded: Good luck with proving it to Judge, and even if you prove it you still violated 65mph limit.

I have so many things gathering telemetry on my car "proving it" would be the easy part. If you can prove that the officer significantly lied about your speed it pretty much goes out the window. They may try to get you to plea down to a no point, low fee infraction, but you shouldn't have to.

The problem is that they put 84 on the ticket (not 92). They always put slightly lower number on the ticket as some sort of favor. So proving that I actually drove 82 would not do me any good.
And I was on the old car with no tech at all, exactly last drive to work before my MME pick up day was scheduled. 😲

Anyway what tech do you use to record all telemetry and visuals while driving?

It is a favor as at a certain speed over the limit it becomes reckless driving (or something a bit more significant than just speeding)

A hill?
That is a mountain. I think we all can agree that speeds that high, up that grade is not going to be easy on any machine. Especially a performance oriented BEV.

Track day is one thing. Climbing a mountain that fast is something else entirely IMO. How fast can we pedal a bicycle? 20 mph? How long would we last before our heart explodes if we try and pedal up that mountain at 20 mph?

Just pointing out that pass has claimed many many many victims for all sorts of reasons. All truck drivers know how brutal that pass can be. The more powerful the engine, the easier it is to overheat the system.
Disagree, unless you are driving some under powered 1.0l NA city car the only vehicles you will see struggling to get up the grapevine are the fully loaded semis so sure they can complain but any modern vehicle will have zero problems with it. You'll see plenty of vehicles having no issues doing 80mph while towing small boats / jet skis on the way to pyramid lake.

The mach-e is sold in all 50 states so needs to work in all of them not just states that are flat as a pancake, it is also sold in Europe also with mountain passes along with autobahns where you can legally cruise at top speed for sustained periods as long as the battery range will allow.

Expecting the HVBJB to fail carry out what to a lot of people is normal every day driving is accepting of piss poor engineering, nobody should be heading up a hill playing a game of russian roulette when it comes to an successful trip or getting a SSN.

There are maximum permissible grades allowed on freeways so it is not like this something magically new to manufactures, I would not even cut Ford any slack if vehicles only failed on mountain pass highways which are allowed much steeper grades, for it to fail on a freeway they have no excuses.

I don't think you can actually charge with the ignition in the on position. I did keep accessory on, but that shouldn't matter. Before going into the DCFC nose first I stopped in a tow friendly parking spot both times, powered down and back on to test for contactor welding. Once that test passed I proceeded into the DCFC stall.
Good to know… so basically SVS means I still have a chance to start up the vehicle. SSN means ☠!

Wow, first @scoopman, now @DevSecOps have experienced the Achilles’ heel that befalls the MachE AWD. I’m glad that DevSecOps is home safe, but Ford should at least reimburse you for the gas used by your family to make the 240 mile round trip to bring you home from the dealer.

I doubt it, Ford seems to think treating thousands of customers to experiences as we've seen over and over on these forums as completely acceptable in the short term aim of saving money.

As Todd said, I bet every GT with the old design is going to have this fail at some point.
This sounds right to me, and leads me to think those of us with non-GT SR AWD MachEs will also meet the same SSN fate from needing to replace the HVBJB, only on a delayed timeframe.

I’m at 7100 Miles now and I am very hesitant to take another trip over Tejon Pass or Donner Summit. So far I’ve only done one round trip over both passes, and I don’t have family that can scoop me up if I am stranded.

I get the point you're trying to make, but keep in mind that you have us. I would definitely drive down to help if needed.

If the car isn't designed to handle the conditions of legally allowable roadways during reasonable weather conditions, it shouldn't be on the road.

I'm on the other side of the country in a pancake-flat area, but I imagine if breaking down on these roads was occurring with other brand-new cars on a consistent basis, I'd probably hear about it.

Ford is severely underestimating how much goodwill has evaporated over this issue. I have my recall appointment tomorrow and it's at our local dealership which just changed owners to a dealer conglomerate I don't care for much (massive ADM on their vehicles across multiple brands.) If it goes awry in any way, I'm going to seriously consider trading for something else.

I bought because of my faith in Ford to provide the service after the sale I didn't feel I would get from Tesla, and boy was I wrong.

I've read through this entire thread to this point and am saddened for Todd and at the same time infuriated at Ford and what they have tried to get away with with the software "fix" which in my mind only buys us some time if (or should I say WHEN) this failure will occur on our MME's. It's disheartening to pay well over $50,000 for these cars only to worry about the reliability of them with a known issue that might (or probably will at some point) impact many of us. All the joking and talk about speeding, etc., is a diversion of the real problem Ford has put us all in by failing to correct the problem the way it should be corrected and that is the replacement of the faulty contactors. My wife takes our car up to see my daughter (about an hour and a half away from us) alone and I shudder to think about what she would do should this happen to her. I have complained to her vaguely about this issue but am afraid to go into detail as I know she would stop taking the car and return to our "old reliable" ICE Acura MDX (after telling me "I told you so!"). I know Ford monitors this board and knows about this issue and what they should do about it but instead have gotten away with what is "supposed" to satisfy the recall. I realize that replacing the under engineered contactors would cost Ford a substantial amount of money but the goodwill to the brand for doing what is right for their customers and the safety for all of us should be their primary concern. Ford did the right thing with the windshield/panoramic roof repair recall which undoubtably is costing them and they should do the same for this more serious issue IMHO. I was warned not to purchase the first model year of any car and I ignored that advice; now I wish I had listened.
