Yeah, that's completely fair. Last time I was in CA, I nearly had a heart attack when a motorcycle flew up between the lanes of cars JUST missing getting clipped by someone's side mirror. Lane-splitting is just unfathomable to me.
LOL, sorry, I have to one-up you on the heart attack.

Heading south from Santa Barbara, on a Sunday, in the fast lane, traffic was dead stopped. Around a curve, I could see a giant horse trailer jack-knifed up ahead.

I had my back window on the truck open, when I suddenly heard a bike really revving up. I glanced at the passenger side mirror and saw the front wheel of a crotch rocket in the mirror. The guy was doing a wheelie while lane-splitting. He was really good, because he disappeared in the stopped traffic, and I did not see him splattered anywhere when the traffic broke. Welcome to California!

But back on topic regarding how fast you can legally drive an MME on a hot day. I hope Ford took this into account.

May 12, 2016 — Utah has one of the highest posted speed limits in the United States, at 80 mph. 80 mph: rural interstates. 75 mph: other limited access roads.

Texas
The law sets the maximum at 70 mph, but allows the Texas Transportation Commission to establish a maximum speed limit of 75 mph (80 mph or 85 mph if the highway is designed to accommodate that speed) on the highway system if that speed is determined to be safe and reasonable after a traffic or engineering study.

In California, and in most states, you are allowed to go well over the speed limit to overtake another vehicle as long as it's safe to do so. Also, in California it's rare to get pulled over unless you're 15-20 over the limit sustained while on the freeways. 83 was my passing speed, not my cruising. Watch the video. Going 70 on I-5 in the fast lane would be a death sentence.

I knew this comment was coming. My speed has nothing to do with the car not performing as it was marketed/manufactured to perform. Before I purchased a GTPE I watched videos of it on race tracks.

Please move to the right lane and stay there 🙂
I worked with a guy who quit to go into training to be a CHP officer. Here's what they are taught to do:

"1. With a posted 65 mph speed limit, if somebody is going 66-70 mph, you COULD give them a speeding ticket."

"2. With a posted 65 mph speed limit, if somebody is going 71-75 mph, you SHOULD give them a speeding ticket."

"3. With a posted 65 mph speed limit, if somebody is going 76 mph or above, you WILL give them a speeding ticket!!!"

As a result, I drive 74 mph in 65 mph zones, except in touchy-cop areas (where I live), where I drive 73 mph.

Just sayin'...

I wish there was a predictable procedure to MAKING the car throw codes, without becoming undrivable, so I could bring it in and schedule the verification/replacement rather than be surprised at some inopportune moment when I am out of town far from a dealership....

I really don’t like the feeling that I’m driving a time bomb. My wife takes this car to work a lot, and I commute to Boston on the Mass Pike twice a week. The last thing I want is to be the idiot who ruins the morning commute for all of Metro West.

I don't think it should have to come to that. Ford should replace all the current contactors with ones that can handle the electrical current load and heat. You shouldn't have to worry about verification or codes thrown and being stuck at an inopportune time just like I shouldn't have to worry about being stranded myself or worse having my wife stranded. We're going to Door County Wisconsin this October and I wanted to take the Mach E. I finally today talked it over with my wife and what has and is happening to others with the contactor failure and she said that there would be no way she would go in the Mach E the way it currently is (even though it is a small percentage having this failure at the current time). She really doesn't care about cars that much and says all she wants is reliable transportation from point A to point B and with what is happening she questions whether it is reliable. What a shame for a relatively brand new car.

Other than commuting to work, I‘ve been unwilling to take the MMe anyplace because of this risk. When I became cognizant of this hesitancy, I made a reservation for the Blazer EV (the SS is sweet).

I can’t get too salty given the resale $ on the MMe remains surprisingly high (I’m more salty about losing my EV tax credit…)

@DevSecOps sorry about the trouble. I hope you and @scoopman are not starting a new trend, own a MME GTPE in the Bay Area and you get a failure. I am hoping to make it until the “real” fix.

On that note, if you get a SSN, and Ford has to replace the relays do you get new and improved or the same as what just failed? If the latter, then that is also just a short term fix and another failure waiting to happen.

The old part is no longer a available. Any HVBJB ordered today will be the updated part and be the permanent fix.

The root of your problem is you told your wife about the HVBJB issue. Ignorance is bliss, and my wife has no problem taking the MME on trips. 👍

I wrestled about whether to tell her but the current nightmare Todd experienced threw me over the edge. I have kept her in the dark for months already and just felt it was time to come clean about what is happening. Ignorance wouldn't be bliss believe me if she was stranded or both of us were stranded and I knew about the problem ahead of time and didn't tell her. Like I said in the post, she really doesn't care much about cars as long as they provide reliable service and it has come to the point where I felt I was lying by omission of this recent HVBJB problem because the car is not reliable. Happy wife, happy life. ;)

I just feel like a forum is where you hear about all the problems, and they become magnified here. Personally I can manage that because I understand the chances are low the problems reported here will happen to me, and chances are if a HVBJB failure does happen, I will be alone on one of my trips. (I drive slower when she is in the car. 😆)

If I told her about all the problems I read about in this forum, she wouldn't have context and wouldn't be able to rationally weigh the real risks. So I don't see it as a lie of omission, but that is just me. I understand where you are coming from.

Which means the rule of law is becoming the rule of man. That's a bad thing, IMO. There are so many laws you don't know about and they can always find something to charge you with if they don't like you. Not good.

It should be back and white. Everyone who breaks the law should have the same consequences. Not that I want to be forced to drive the speed limit, or anything like that. 😂
That is not necessarily good public policy and why we have a justice system and not “justice-bots” 😀

Me too. Seriously. I'm retired and would be happy to help if I can. (Mind you I still have the extra mild burrito of an HVBJB, so who know how fast I'll be able to respond!)
