Did you know that there aren't any "Level 3" chargers out there?

Check out this super informative video from Professor John Kelly at Weber State University's Department of Automotive Technology.

I think I've watched probably the majority of his videos at this point. Professor Kelly is providing a tremendous, free video resource for anyone wanting to know how their electric vehicles are put together.

Fair enough. I've noticed some people prefer to say DC FC, instead of "DC Level 2" or "Level 3." I kind of like DC FC because it's more descriptive. DC FC truly is a "Fast Charger" compared to all the other options. Although maybe in another 10-20 years it will be considered really slow as faster tech comes out. ;-)

In fact, the spread on DCFC is so great that I'm seeing a distinction made between fast charging and ultra high-speed DCFC. In the contexts that I'm seeing, it's at about 150kW and higher. So Tesla Supercharging V2 and V3 as well as Electrify America's CCS 150kW and 350kW chargers.

What i'd like to see is more 150kW+ CCS chargers besides EA. It would be nice if companies like EVgo, Chargepoint and whatnot had greater presence out there on major routes as well as secondary highways.

We'll get there but the waiting sucks.

tl;dr - Extended Range 99kWh Mach-E has the same 10% -> 80% DC fast charging profile as a 85-100kWh Tesla Model S/X. Also, Electrify America charging is gonna be $$.

I've been looking at YouTube videos posted of charging times and Bjorn Nyland has a great video doing a comparison of 2019 pre-Raven and Raven Long Range Model S cars charging both from 10% on CCS chargers capable of 350kW.

Both Tesla Model S take 45mins to get to 80% state of charge maxing out near 135kW. So, while the Extended Range Mach-E on 150kW EA charger won't be able to keep up with a Model 3/Y on a V2 Supercharger let alone a V3, the Mach-E is nearly identical to any Model S/X with an 85-100kWh pack.

If the charging speed is good enough for Tesla fanboys for a Model S/X then surely it's good enough for Ford's Mach-E?

Notes:
Range for Model S 2015-2019
85D - 270mi
90D- 294mi
100D/Long Range (pre-Raven) - 335mi

AWD Extended Range Mach-E charging time of 10% - 80% is 45mins on a 150kW charger.
If 70% of energy takes 45 mins, that's 189mi of range added (270mi x 70%).
189mi divided by 45mins = 4.2mi per minute added on average.
30 minutes at 4.2mi = 126mi.

Electrify America charges, depending on the plan, either $0.70 or $0.99 for 150kW charging speed in CA. 30 minutes will therefore cost you between $21 to $31 using EA chargers.

I haven't seen the charging curves for the Mach-E. Do you have a link comparing charging rates for the Mach-E to Tesla Model S/X?

I showed all my work in the post. Ford says the Extended Range Mach-E charges from 10% -> 80% in 45 mins on a 150kW charger. That's the same as a Tesla S/X.

Here are charging sessions documented for Tesla:
