I would love to see it, but based on how I read the article it appears to be their target and they will slowly get there. So nothing yet, but hopefully a promising future.

Not gonna happen soon. Way too much heat build up for existing systems to handle. According to my understanding, the only way to do this is with solid state batteries. People have been working on this for the past 10-15 years, but yet here we are....

Wait didn't anyone else notice the other tidbit in that article other than 90% in 10 minutes (I say they are somehow incorporating a large capacitor allowing it to charge up quickly).

The other tidbit: GM plans on introducing 20 or more battery electric vehicles by 2023! That's only 3 years away, they better start cranking out BEVs left and right.

90% of 60 kWh in 10 minutes would certainly be "quantum leap" territory if they can actually achieve it (without the car exploding, of course).

I guess we'll see if/when it becomes a reality.

yeah they said costs because of the heavier wires needed or something along those lines. I would think the future will call for this sort of fast charging to be able to get EV's widely adopted.

That includes China and other markets.

Still that means at least a few for us (like the long rumored SUV based on the Bolt--A Buick if I remember correctly).

They still don't have a vehicle on the road with this technology, so until it's proof we don't know. GM is still many years away from this but it's good to see them showing their forward thinking. Tesla can already charge 80% in a matter of 20-25 minutes

EV/battery & charging technology is advancing in dog years time (really really fast). State of the art from 2016 is now considered obsolete in the EV world.

Gas car tech however hasn't changed in that time.

This is still what scares me about buying EV. I drive too much to lease unless they bump miles to 25K. Afraid some new tech will come out the minutes I pay my money.

If you want to know where car technology is going to be in five years, look at the luxury brands. It's always been the same. The top of the line tech/features always start at the high end then trickle down so that within 1-2 car cycles it's in the mid-low price points.

Examples:
Air conditioning
Power windows/locks/mirrors
Adaptive cruise
Automatic emergency braking
List goes on and on...

Point being, get the car you'll be happy with and don't worry about FOMO. The next greatest thing is always 5 years away.

Two Bit da Vinci did a great analysis of GM's Battery & Drivetrain day. Tesla fanboys had me convinced that GM had nothing but after watching this very clear explanation from Ricky (himself a Tesla P3D owner), maybe GM is onto something.
