What?
I thought most of your previous posts were good, logical and somewhat relevant.
But:
-stick with ice cars?
-pay cash for gas?
-every one of "those"? needs pre authorization
I have been driving and owning cars for many decades. Obviously, most have been ice cars.
Paid w/ cc for petrol. for 30+ years, because I get/got 1-5% back when paying w/ cc. Do not remember last time I paid cash for petrol. Probably the mid 70s.
Have not purchased any petrol. in 6+ years.
In the civilized world you have to insert a debit or credit card into the reader or tap the card’s RFID chip on the reader before you can get gas, pre authorized in other words. In fact if you pay in cash, you have to go see the clerk first and put your money up front on pump number x. Nobody is plugging their car into a gas pump and just pumping away first.

Taking it further, when you use a credit or debit card, your bank will pre authorize a certain amount which varies from $75 and up. They’ve block that amount from your account until the merchant submits the actual amount (equal to or lower than the bank’s pre authorized amount.)

If people are facing a hard time understanding how to activate a DCFC, they need to stick to the analog pre internet world because what DCFC is pretty darn close to that. Even in Oregon, where self serve gas is not a thing, you have to cough up a credit card first before the attendant will pump gas.

No. People do not always complain. That is a cynical statement.
No one was complaining.
As they say, the only constant is Change.
Some people embrace it some people don't. Some complain others don't.
Change still happens.

For those still waiting - did many of you get a notification it was shipped ? Or was it a surprise at the door ? Inquiring minds - want to know . And heck yes we could each order one but this process generated some drama

From a consumer point of view, NOTHING should be this difficult period.
It works or it doesn't. If it doesn't, it doesn't then it does not exist/work.
Technology only exists if it works.
When the software is working right all you do is plug in and it charges, with automatic billing. It's even easier than gas.

Not that I use EV supply stations much, but to the best of my knowledge they all require some sort of pre authorization(CC and/or account) . And most of them keep your CC info. on file.
I do not recall any gasoline station keeping CC info. on file.
I did, recently, rent an EV on an out of town trip. Tried to use the preauthorized app. at a nationwide EV supply network location. It did not work (tried all the stations). Finally had to ring up corporate. Turns out I had to reestablish the pre authorized account........
Of course, it would be best to eliminate those stupid (hard time understanding) people then you could have your utopia.

Every gas station requires either payment in cash up front or pre authorized credit/debit cards. The whole question here came about because of how complicated the op felt DCFC was. It’s not all that difficult nor terribly different than many other e-commerce transactions.

As for whether a DCFC company keeps your credit card info on file or not, you are correct, that’s certainly true when you use the apps. Some even require a minimum positive balance. If you use the card reader by tapping with your RFID enabled credit card, they don’t keep anything on file. The ability to pay without an account was also a requirement of NEVI. Eventually, even Tesla’s supercharger system will gain the ability to pay via credit card without using the apps. I’d not hold my breath though.

Where have you been since 1990? All computer sh__ works this way. It works great the first time and then after that, good luck. Computers make our life easier until they don’t.
Also known as "the inconvenience of modern technology"!
