Hey Gang. Took delivery of our '22 Grabber Blue GT-PE last Thursday after a long wait- like everyone else. Ordered 10/20/22, Built 4/5/22, Delivered 5/5/22.

Unfortunately, we noticed a few minor defects after we left the dealership. Contacted them when we got home. They are going to take a look and advise as to the fix. Rubber trim around the small driver side, rear passenger door D shaped window was gashed. Hopefully it's a simple swap of the trim. This showed up pretty clearly on our initial picture with the car at the dealership but we didn't look at the pics until we got home...

More disconcerning is that there are 2 small rock chips in the hood on the passenger side. Our delivery got messed up as they had another MME come in along with mine and the dealership had prepped the wrong car, not realizing it until close to delivery time. We spent over 3 hours waiting for the car to be ready, between cleaning it up and charging. To boot, it was cool and the car was wet and dirty from the road trip (it had arrived on Tues, picked up 48 hours later).

So, needless to say, unfortunately, the dealer probably didn't do their usual level of detailing and PDI.

Now, our first glimpse of the car was in the dealership garage sitting on the charger ahead of detailing. It was dirty and initially looked like it had been driven in the rain based on the dirt streaks along the front and sides but it only had 5.3 miles on the odometer. I also noticed a small flat rock about the size of dime stuck in the air dam on the passenger side. Pointed it out to the rep who had escorted us to look at the car. Given the mileage, and I was assured nobody at the dealership drove the car so I can only believe that the damage happened somewhere along the transport route. Unfortunate as I bet my car was probably loaded at the front, facing forward on the rail car or transport truck and some gravel or sand had been kicked up.

So disappointing when we've waited to so long, delivery botched with wrong car prepped. It really didn't give us a good opportunity to fully inspect it before taking it home. I know this is certainly not one of the worst delivery experiences and $hit happens...

I have no idea how I missed it except that I was there for over 3 hours and feeling nauseous so I was not in good shape for the delivery. Turned out to a minor touch of food poisoning from my morning yogurt smoothie. I felt off all day... Arghh..

QUESTIONS:
-Anybody have experience with the rubber trim? Think it's a simple fix for the dealership body shop?

-More concerned about the rock chips. Down to bare metal.
1)Does the MME have an Aluminum hood?
2)Can this be easily filled, paint touched up, wet sanded and then CC again without re-painting the entire hood?
3)My guess is that Grabber blue s/b an easy match and less of an issue to fix than a metalic color. True or false?

Thoughts on how to fix?

Beyond that, I am absolutely wowed with the entire package. Showed it to my siblings and dad. My sister drove it and she could not contain her excitement. Like most of us who drive an EV for the first time, we are left shocked (no pun intended) and amazed. :)

Unfortunately, you made a rookie mistake - picking a car up that wasn't ready, not examining it after prep, and being rushed. Lesson learned, never do that. I never pick up cars on rainy days, or at night. I want to see it in daylight.

Everything can be fixed. The question on the paint fixes is if it will be noticeable, to you. Rock chips like that can be touched up (aluminum hood), but you will notice it.

Let the dealer assess and recommend. If necessary, they will repaint.

After receiving notice from the dealership to come pick up my new car in April 2021, the dealer tried to catch me to say there would be a delay and to come the next day, but I didn't get the message and showed up. I saw that the car had a pretty obnoxious scrape on the driver rear end. At the time the salesperson didn't know if it would be painted or bumper replaced. It was repainted and looks great. Can't tell a thing - and I definitely looked hard.

I also had a piece of rubber sticking out from the trunk window, which was taken care of as well. No issue with either since.

I'm sure this sort of thing happens often. They'll take care of it.

Get used to the paint chips unless you PPF your front end, its extremally common unfortunately.

This is probably common transit damage that most people have no idea ever occured.

Those chips are an easy fix. The rubber molding is replaceable. The only thing you have to worry about is if the dealer plays games and tries to say you did this after taking delivery.

Weird thing is my Grabber blue had the same problem with that rubber trim. Almost as if they strapped it down and it damaged the rubber. I saw the day of pickup and dealer said they will order the trim and fix at not cost to me.

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I met up with the dealer last night who apologized for the car being PDI'ed and not catching these.

He said while he obviously could not prevent damage in transit that sometimes happens, he will make it right.

Interesting comment on the rubber trim. Glad to know it's not unique.

As for the chips, he said they could fill it in but it would be noticeable. He's going to repaint the hood instead.

Transport damage is more common than people think. My GTPE had a major scratch on the front wind splitter that the dealer missed at delivery (but I caught before my delivery), so the cost to fix it falls on them. Same maybe true with your hood issue. Same difference to you because it won’t cost you anything, but if the dealer is now paying versus charging Ford or the transport company, you just want to make sure you are approving the method of correction. Don’t let the dealer cheap out on their dime with a touch up job if you can still see the spots. The final car needs to have a factory NEW finish so a full hood paint may be needed.
My dealer is actually taking in my car this week (delivery was January) to correct the wind splitter by touch up and buff, but we agreed that if I’m not satisfied they would replace the whole piece. I had PPF installed on the whole front end, so i wanted to wait until the weather was nice to have it redone on that part. The PPF/Ceramic installer tried to correct the scratch but did a horrible job and agreed to reapply film after the dealer paints it. It was a major scratch from the tow hook or something. Easy to miss in the winter when the vehicle was covered in dirt and road salt.

Could also mean it's a part manufacturer defect, which leads to other questions.

Grabber Blue is a metallic color. How it matches without tinting will vary based on the paint system the shop uses. That said, it's a very easy fix and no reason it shouldn't look like new. They will repair the chips and blend color on the hood. There should be no color against the fenders so color match should be dead on. Enjoy your new ride.

When I picked up my GTPE it had window scratches from removing the window sticker. I didn't notice because it was late and I was tired. They replaced the window without any hassle. Good dealers are out there.

As a follow-up, the dealer re-painted the hood and replaced the side glass that had damaged rubber. I was absolutely floored at how fantastic of a job they did!! You cannot tell and it was showroom shape when I picked it up having been freshly detailed down to the tire dressing.

When I dropped it off, I'd noticed a few other rock chips and pointed them out. The body shop manager even marked an additional one I had missed. They have all been taken care of.

Very pleased with the outcome and well worth the 3 days wait for the repair.

I had a similar situation with the piano black trim on the l/r door, pointed it out to the salesaman. I figured I go back after the weekend to have the service department check it out and order the part. While washing the car (I never trust the dealer dudes to clean to my expectations) I notice a scratch on the l/r window as well and it lined up with the scratch on the pillar. Ten miutes with the service manager and a new window and pillar trim are ordered and will be replaced next week under warranty.
I inspected my MME top to bottom and this was fortunately the only transport damage I found.
