Has anyone widened out their stock wheels stance with spacers?

Thread title. I have a premium AWD and just want to widen the stance of the rear wheels out a bit more. Looking to get it kind of close to flush with the fender. What are the trade-offs of doing so? Decreased range at all?

I don't have spacers but my 19x8.5" wheels have a +20 offset and they still don't stick out past the fender.
