Having difficult time setting up phone as a key

Having difficult time setting up phone as a key. Ford Pass tech was trying to help. While on the phone with them they wanted me to go to settings. Unfortunately couldn’t get into settings. Finally found that if I was on the phone with Bluetooth the settings/controls would not work. Tech said then they couldn’t help me unless I could get into settings. When not on the phone have no problem getting into settings/controls. Anyone have this problem, if so any words of wisdom. Thanks
