Need some help with my new 2024 MME. The heated steering wheel warms up quickly and then in about 60 seconds it cools down, and is barely warm.

This is my second MME, and my 2021 heated steering wheel was always toasty warm. Does anyone know if this feature was intentionally designed to step down? Is there an adjustment available? Thanks for your input.

I noticed this in my 24 as well just today, I'm wondering if there is some power sharing between the wheel and heated seats which starves the wheel heater?

It's thermostatically controlled. You might notice it's warmer the first couple minutes until the temperature sensor catches up, then it will maintain the same temperature. Just like the preheat cycle on your oven.

I have complained about mine from day 1 in my 22 Cali Rt 1. It only barely gets warm. I just moved on and accepted it because the dealers insisted it works as intended. My other cars have all gotten downright hot.

It's the same in my '23 Premium. The wheel gets warm for a minute then cools right down. It barely feels luke warm after a minute or two. I suppose it's still better than a cold steering wheel.

The steering wheel in my wife's Nissan, however, will leave scorch marks on your hands after a few minutes lol. It also stays warm, almost too warm for a long while.

I'd like a steering wheel heater somewhere between the one in my MME and wife's Pathfinder.

@markboris found variability in the positioning of the thermistor that is used to sense the steering wheel heat. The ones that are not warm enough have the thermistor positioned a tiny bit closer to the heating element than the ones that are warm enough. ??
I'm sure my dealership won't repair that! Not many of the mechanics work on EV cars - at least thats what I find at Serra Ford Farmington Hills Mi - not pleasant to deal with there!

Yeah, I don’t understand why dealers make EV mechanics work on common stuff like seats, squeaks hinges, and steering wheels when they should be working on EV specific stuff if there is a queue. ?‍♂?

Liability. If you aren’t trained you don’t know what you don’t know. Rarely a technician could get into something that crosses over and could fry themselves. Common sense has lost out to lawyers.
