So these mockups (mach-ups?) are really neat and all that, but they're missing a key component: an easy way to toggle between modes. Of all the cars I've been in where you can change the data being shown on the instrument cluster screen, there's a dedicated control on the steering wheel. The Mach-E in its current iteration lacks this.

Much of this mockup material is way too busy for my eyes. I don't need a car that looks like the back room at a casino.

I'd prefer a layout that allows me to show/not show pieces of information. I agree 100% with the original premise of wanting mi/kWH on the IPC.

Hopefully part of Doug Field's goal on the UI front is unifying the various interfaces among vehicles because it is quite true that many other vehicles have a better IPC than what we currently have. Hopefully IPC updates will be the next chapter after the SYNC updates we currently saw.

Interestingly, Ford did exactly this on the Lightning.

They have an adjustable Driver's Instrument Cluster that you can modify using the existing controls on the steering wheel? The same set of controls that exist on the Mach-E?

I have t had the truck very long and Iā€™ve exclusively been using the ā€œquietā€ screen.
Itā€™s nothing like the Mach-E. Different screen configurations and a lot of it is different truck-specific stuff. Thereā€™s one for trailer towing, one shows pitch and roll angles for off-roading.
The variations wouldnā€™t play on the Mach, but the point is that the instrument panel screen is changeable by steering wheel buttons. ICE F150s are similar.
The steering wheel buttons are maddeningly different from the Mach-E. Volume control is on the left, for example.

But there are specific controls on the steering wheel that allow you to choose those alternate displays, right? And those controls don't exist on the Mach-E's steering wheel, right? That's kinda what I'm getting at.

Exactly - I think weā€™re saying the same thingā€¦.my first comment in this thread was to point out how differently Ford implemented the instrument panel on the two EVs.

Yeah, I'd love to see the updated info like the F-150 has, but I don't think they can do an OTA for the steering wheel controls. :)

Btw, I love your username. Nice DS9/Voyager reference...

Add Escape to the list of vehicles with a customizable dash.

Likewise. This readout doesn't need to be nearly as intricate as some want to make it. What I am looking for, and a lot of others too it seems, is a realtime energy consumption/regeneration display, and a miles/kWh display that can be reset on a per-trip or recharge basis. The IPC has lots of unused real estate to support these readouts and they could be readily added with a software update. But I don't see them doing so as Ford made a deliberate decision to not provide this information to MME drivers. The reasoning behind this decision would have to change, and it's hard to imagine that happening without knowing at least why they did it in the first place.

Itā€™s silly we are even having this discussion. Our Audi Q5 PHEV does all of this and more on the driver display. It even lets you cycle through 3 or 4 screens with a steering wheel button. I always set it to vehicle stats, which shows efficiency, regen, etc. My wife always sets it to display CarPlay song info, including album art. It also displays navigation info. Takes half a sec to switch screens with a steering wheel scroll wheel.

This is a SOLVED PROBLEM. Hell, my 2017 Nissan Pathfinder let me scroll through vehicle data on the driver display using the steering wheel buttons, including tire pressure and navigation prompts. FFS Ford.

Below are photos of my Audi display.

A display like that would do away with a lot of the "WATCH THE ROAD" nags in BC.

Ford leans on the center display far too much for information that drivers are going to want/need to look at while the car is in motion. It would make better sense to move some of it (or at least give drivers the OPTION) to the main instrument display.

Personally I would rather they spend time fixing their software gremlins before they start to make more changes and give me a multitude of options that will most likely cause other problems.

I've been reading on this thread how many cars and trucks have customizable dash displays and on the Mach-E this is basically nonexistent. Here is what I find very laughable..... my ICE Mustang has the most customizable dash display of any Ford I have ever seen and probably is. The EV Mustang dash display is the LEAST customizable display I've ever seen and I believe the car is much more technologically advanced than the ICE Mustang so why can't Ford allow us to customize it a bit?

If I were to post photos of what my ICE Mustang dash can look like with varying layouts, colors, gauges, etc., there might be a hundred or more.

There are three basic dash cluster appearances you can choose from. Normal, Sport and Track. They can change with your selected drive mode or you can keep it as a default no matter what drive mode you are in. Each one of the three dash cluster displays can be customized with your choice of colors and gauges. There is also a "My Mode" where you can customize the display exactly how you want with color, gauges, drive mode, exhaust mode, etc.

For colors, there is the primary gauge color and secondary pointer and warning color that you can choose independently. You can pick from 8 standard colors or create your own color.

As far as gauges, the Tachometer and Speedometer are always shown on each of the three dash cluster types. In Normal mode both gauges are round analog style with the speedometer also showing a digital number. In sport mode the tach becomes more prominent and changes from a round gauge to partial bar across the top of the cluster. Speedometer stays the same. In Track mode, the tachometer is a very large bar across the entire top of the display and the speedometer is strictly digital with very large numbers.

As far as other gauges, they include: Air/Fuel Ratio, Axle Oil Temp, Cylinder Head Temp, Engine Oil Pressure, Engine Oil Temp, Inlet Air Temp, Manifold Charge Temp, Transmission Oil Temp, Vacuum/Boost and Battery Voltage. All these can be displayed either in ANALOG (three at a time) or DIGITAL (four at a time) whatever your preference.

Besides the gauges, the other information that can be shown: Tire pressure (all four), Instant/Average fuel economy, left/right lateral and brake/accel G's, Distance to Empty, Song Track being played.

There is also Track info if you want: Line Lock, Launch Control, Acceleration Timer, Brake performance and Lap timer.

All of these dash, gauge and performance choices are all chosen with buttons on the steering wheel so they are quickly and easily accessible.

There is also a HUD for the tach shift light indictor. You can select the shift points, audio tone, mode and intensity of the HUD.

@Ford Motor Company - You chose to put the Mustang badge on this vehicle. Please make it a Mustang experience!

I'd love to see some variation of the current instrument panel (with mi/kWh) as the Whisper Mode variant, with progressively more technical variants for Engage and Unbridled modes. As it is possible with the ICE Mustang, it would be great to set one of these variants as the default screen, regardless of driving mode.

The "OK" button on the steering wheel can be long-pressed to reset the trip odometer. I would assume that a short-press could be assigned to toggle through different displays on the instrument cluster. If not, I'm sure it could be possible from the main display.

@Ford Motor Company - Your Mach-e customers are speaking... Why do your other vehicles allow instrument cluster customization, but not the Mach-e?
