Has anyone had a hitch installed in NJ? I already bought the hitch - it'll only be used for a bike rack.
I called a few dealerships, but they won't install since its not a Ford part, which I understand and expected. I called a few places I found online which do say they handle hitch installs, and they just seem hesitant to do it since they haven't done it before on an MME. I'm trying to avoid Pep Boys/U-Haul, although they could be a last resort. It doesn't seem hard based on what I've seen on here, if the weather was better I'd even attempt it myself, I just don't have a warm garage to do it in.

Just wondering if anyone has a place they've used that they can recommend.

I installed the hitch myself, so can't help with a good NJ installer. I bought the Torklift hitch. I used their online locator to find installers and there were not any close to me.

I called the closest one (Millers Auto and Truck Accessories in Horsham, PA) anyway just to see if the quote would be worth it. They wanted $300, which I thought was a bit steep.

Anyway, if my car was gonna be cut, I wanted to do it myself.

Thanks, I'm sort of leaning towards just trying it.. I'm guessing you used ramps, right? It looks like it would be way too tight to get underneath without it.

How long did it take you to do it?

I borrowed ramps from a friend. I saw in one of the hitch threads that someone did it without ramps or jacks. Looks like the disadvantage is you can't take the underbody cover completely off because you can't reach the back screws. The advantage was that he could rest one end of the hitch on the ground while he attached the other end loosely to the car. Don't need a second person to help lift the hitch into place that way.

I went slow, carefully measuring and took a couple of breaks. Took about three hours.
