A while. To be honest as a lifelong “car guy” it’s pretty tough for me to defend the Mach-E as a Mustang.
That’s not a knock on either car…it’s just that a Mustang brings to mind a roaring V-8 two-door coupe and the Mach-E just isn’t that. Square ain’t a circle, etc.
Does that mean you don't consider 4&6 cylinder versions Mustangs either??

I couldn't possibly care less.

Call it what you like. Accept Ford's name, or reject it. Why would it matter?
I guess some people are emotionally invested in the name. Being a Ponycar guy but not a Ford or Mustang guy (my Ponycars were mostly of a different brand), I originally thought that Ford should keep the name on a Ponycar. That didn’t stop me from wanting one. Logically, Ford owns the right to the name where it applies to passenger cars, so they can do what they like with it. So I switched to the camp of “I don’t care what they call it.” 😊🐩

I don’t care if someone likes or dislikes the name on the car. It’s fun to drive and comfortable. It does an incredible job as a commuter. 😊🐩

My mother-in-law had a 1974 Mustang with the 88 HP 2.3L motor...still a "Mustang"? I say yes, just not a fast one!

Well as a huge Mustang Cheerleader and having 1985, 1987, 1989, and 2018 Mustang GTs, I can tell you I have no problem calling it a Mustang. Was the Mustang II a Mustang? It used the new-for-1971 subcompact Ford Pinto as its foundation.

Just looking at the performance numbers and handling of the MachE is enough for me to call it a Mustang and when or if I do encounter any haters, I'll just show them the below picture and ask them, "was that a Mustang?"

I am firmly in the “I’ll never consider my Mach-E a Mustang” camp.

Did you notice how GM didn’t make their electrified Corvette into a different type ofvehicle?

Make me think of Porsche.

Porsche is not a four door car! Now it is.

Porsche is not a SUV! Now it is.

Porsche is not electric! Now it is.

All are just called and accepted as Porsche.
I was one of those "purists" who hated the Cayenne when it first came out. I mean, I really hated that Porsche was making an SUV. (I also said I'd never drive a car that isn't a stick...silly young Doug...) Then I had one as a loaner for a couple of weeks when my Boxster engine grenaded. Didn't take long for me to be converted...even if it took me a while to admit I was converted.

So to respond to the OP's original question...how long will it take to get a lot of these "purists" behind the wheel of these fantastic beasts? I'm going to say a few years. There will always be a stubborn few who can't "let go" (just as there are still Porsche folk who despise anything with a water cooled engine), but I think, in time, they'll come around.

When I get my MME this weekend (I hope - fingers crossed) this will be my third Mustang. Don't have much of an opinion on the issue of is it or is not a "true" Mustang. I am going to call it an Mach-E. I am not concerned if people think it is or is not a Mustang. As long as they leave me and my car alone, I do not care. If I get an a-hole who wants to argue, my response is that Ford named it, not me. Take the issue up with Ford. I just bought the damn thing since it looked great, it was made by Ford, had great features and good power/handling.

I for one am fine with it being 'not a mustang' because my last experience with a mustang was horrible. I had a fox body, it was the biggest POS I owned. Slow the seats were terrible, handled like a whole. It is a mustang in name only, and it beats the pants off of a lot of the ICE versions.

But Tom,

I had 2 Fox body Mustang 5.0's.....Loved it.... :D

Now I have the MachE GTPE, I bought it for it's offerings and bang for the buck not to mention the sexy lines of the design......I thought I would regret it bc of the 5 second-limiter but nah....I am not driving to race 1/4 miles.....I like the power on demand when needed
As a matter of fact, I have been using Whisper Mode most often and happy even in that Mode.

Thx for sharing

Fox body was a step in the right direction compared to my first..ahheem...mustang. That was a Mustang II glorified pinto. It was my first car and I am glad my dad got it for me as a wrecked car. I learned to do body work, fix the engine, etc. Fixed it up and drove it into the ground. If he had given me a real car, with a V8, I would have wrecked it or worse.

My buddy drives a ‘22 5.0 and he and his friends say “it’s the future”, “gonna happen”, “that instant torque”.

They like the looks. I’ve had a couple 5.0s, GTs. The MME is an AWD 4dr hatch interpretation and I could care (give a rats behind) what others think.

However.. the Lighting and trucks to follow are the real game changers.
