I did a search on this but didnt find anything in the forum here. (Heaven knows I'm not the greatest with searching)

I have read that Tesla has been using refurb HVBs when a pack needs replacing. Is Ford doing the same? I would guess other manufacturers are and Ford probubly also.

Good question. I do believe in the past some folx identified the Service done on their big battery had not installed a new HVBJB part but a used refurb one. So it is always possible.

Refurbished were used for repairs, I believe for the recall they were new parts. I have no idea moving forward for non-recall repairs. What fails in general are the contactors so if they are replaced it should be good to go with a refurbished part.

Ford packs have the ability to change individual cell modules, which means there is less wasted battery packs. So I don’t think there is really a pool of used cells available to build a refurbished pack. If the whole pack is deemed bad, you get a brand new one as far as I know. In most cases they will just change the affected cell modules so 80% of your pack will be the same as before.

Battery module replacements are incredibly rare, so we don't have enough reports about them to know what Ford is choosing to do in general.

The new vehicle warranty states that new, remanufactured, and refurbished module replacements are all possibilities.

If a covered component requires replacement under the Electric Vehicle Component warranty, it may be replaced with a new, factory remanufactured, or factory refurbished component, at Ford’s discretion. Refurbished battery components selected for your vehicle will align with your vehicle’s age and mileage and meet Ford’s requirements and standards.

I have only read a couple of stories about individual battery cells having been replaced. These stories are exceedingly rare. I have not read a story that I can recall where the entire pack needed to be replaced (doesn’t mean that it hasn’t happened, just that I don’t remember reading about one). So, since most of a pack that’s been serviced is used, I guess you can call the pack refurbished. Or you can say that a cell was replaced. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ©
