I hate pausing my podcast or music for 5 seconds just to adjust the fan speed. It’s annoying.
I get that. I rely on the automatic climate control, but I understand that some people prefer more granular control.

I had the new update for the UI and it is in my opinion a lot better. Still getting used to all the functions but it does solve a lot of these concerns with HVAC controls. My only complaint is with the making the tiles smaller you have to open those now to view. I would like to see if they could somehow fit the mileage as well as the mi/kw on the tile so wouldn't have to open. It's how I figure out my range during driving.
My big complaint with the new UI is that they did not leave the option for the large tiles. I liked the large tiles and the information/functionality they provided, and didn’t mind the small loss of real estate in the main display. Now that they’ve insisted on small tiles, they should allow us to have multiple active windows on the main display, the way CarPlay does.

I think center screen Portrait orientation is bad idea.

The ac/heat controls on the bottom are too low to operate quickly while driving. It only becomes worse with out haptic feedback(like touching physical buttons)

While playing YouTube videos only half of the screen is used.

Overall, big screen with portrait orientation feels like a bad idea in any vehicle. Might just give top half of the screen, and give physical controls for the bottom half.

I do not see a good use case except for bragging
I didn't buy the Mach-E to play videos. Nor do I go around saying "my screen is bigger than yours". I think the screen is fine.

Honestly my only complaint is the lack of media information while using mapping in Android Auto and that's on Google. I think I've gotten increasingly accustomed to the layout and location of things. The Sync updates (4.1.2) are nice. But I get one size will never fit all. Not trying to discredit the OP's preference.

I really like the portrait layout. I think for every day use it makes better use of space in the car than a landscape screen would. The only drawback is video playback, but that is a minor use case compared to driving the car.

As far as physical buttons go, I’d be happy to never see those again. Short of the buttons on the steering wheel, they can all go away. I don’t see the need for them. I can adjust the climate in the car without looking right now, I don’t need physical buttons cluttering everything up.

IMHO the top of the screen just asks some incautious / immature / drunk passenger
There is a very simple solution to this problem, don’t let them anywhere near your car. Inside or out.

Anyone remember when the first iPhone released without a physical keyboard? What a travesty! Physical buttons are so much better, what were they thinking!!! 😆 people crack me up.

“The downside is that typing is done by pecking on the screen with thumbs or fingers, something hardly anyone outside of Apple has experienced yet. “The tactile feedback of a mechanical keyboard is a pretty important aspect of human interaction,” said Bill Moggeridge, a founder of Ideo, an industrial design company in Palo Alto, Calif. “If you take that away you tend to be very insecure.””

And yet I still make tons of mistakes typing on my iPhone. 12 years later it is still bad at being a typing device compared to my blackberry, it’s just better at everything else so I put up with it.

The number of time I have to edit my posts on here because of a typo….

True, but I make the same amount of typos on a physical keyboard, even a desktop keyboard so it’s the same for me either way 😂

I prefer integrated dash components instead of the nailed a tablet to the dash look. I love my MME, but it will likely be traded in for something without a tablet hanging off the dash in a few years.

I like portrait for navigation - shows more of what is coming up, kind of like the old AAA Triptik (reference for old guys only). I do not like the smaller tiles at the bottom though, and I wish Android Auto could show me map and music selection at the same time. Lexus does that on AA. Heard an update from Android may be coming for that. Right now, huge screen but can only look at one thing at a time with small tiles at the bottom.

I like the portrait orientation. A landscape orientation would make a long reach for the driver attempting to interact with the right side of the screen.

I like portrait better. First and foremost, it's within easier reach of the driver. In landscape, the far edge would be father away from the driver and it would be more of a reach. I've also grown to like the "floating tablet" design. I thought it looked a little goofy at first (like a tablet glued onto the dash), but I've come to appreciate the practicality of having a nice grip edge all the way around to better anchor my fingers or thumb to more accurately touch the screen. I can hit the right spot faster and more dependably that way, taking my eyes off the road for less time.

I don't have any problem with the climate controls on the bottom. I'm glad they're there to be along an edge, for the reason above.

The screen also lines up better being the same width as the center console, so I find it more appealing visually too. It "fits" better this way.

I don't care about YouTube or Netflix or any of that on the car's screen. I'm out of the car going to the bathroom or doing a walk when charging on a road trip. Last thing I need is to sit there for another 30 minutes watching TV after just doing a 2-hour drive leg.

Hm, sort of little surprised no one has issues with portrait orientation.

Well, I guess I will show myself out then 🤔
