I was told yesterday the wait is 24 weeks. Seriously?

I've only seen one "used" car for sale, a standard, SR that I wasn't interested in (I'll wait for what I want.) I believe it was at MSRP with about 2.5K miles on it.

I don't know if dealers sell the demos as used or new. From what I've seen (total of one car so far,) when they become available, the mannequins/demos with 4K miles on it sell at some dealerships for sticker price. I suspect other dealers sell (or attempt to sell) at up to 5K over sticker. I cut/pasted below from emails I've received from dealers in the past week or so:

"My name is Lisa Jo, I wanted to thank you for your Internet inquiry on the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. That is an excellent vehicle choice! We do have one Mach-E at this time. However, it is being used as a DEMO - Ford mandates us to drive and let customers drive the vehicle until it has 4K miles on it. I have to check on the current mileage."

"Hi Chris, I received your inquiry about our 2021 Mustang Mach-E. That specific vehicle that you inquired about is actually an order for another client. Let me know if you have any questions that I can help you with!"

My standard response is now:

We are looking for a 2021 (or 2022) Mustang Mach-E, Carbonized Gray (or its substitute), Premium, RWD, Extended battery. That's what we are looking for. We are flexible on color but not the rest.

If you have a customer who decides to not take delivery, or an order cancelation, please let me know.

Thanks for the reply. Glad to see yours also says place order in progress after the dealer accepted the order. For some reason my order doesn’t have anything below for order sent to and accepted by dealer. Not sure if that’s unique or not.

I'm not sure I buy too much into this shortage stuff. Modern manufacturing is so productive that it can overwhelm any demand increases in a matter of months and weeks. Witness what happened with the TP shortage, they can't give the stuff away these days. I bet when we are heading deep into summer and the seasonal low point for car sales the lots will be flooded with cars. Esp. the 100,000's of cars out there missing a chip or two and sitting on a factory lot somewhere. By January 2022 we will be hearing 0% interest rates and dealer incentives again.

I work in semiconductor and the rumblings is that this chip shortage can last well into 2022 and possibly into 2023. The problem is that when the pandemic started and auto sales tanked, automakers canceled their chip orders. But when auto sales started to skyrocket, automakers got pushed to the back of the line, because the demand is now coming from mobile devices and computers. You can blame a lot of that on Just in Time manufacturing.

Also, the demand for chips right now is incredibly high, higher than back in the early 2000's ramp. It takes time and costs a major amount of money to increase capacity and/or build new chip fabs. Also doesn't help that a majority of chips made come from Southeast Asia, there are not that many major chip fabs domestically.

Yep. There's just a lot of factors that combine to upset the supply lines. I just happened to watch this video this morning that addresses some of it...

Response from a dealer today regarding extended range models.

”…they aren't currently building extended range units due to constraints.”

Not sure I’ve seen this anywhere as I think he is just trying to get me into a standard range on the lot.

Dealers are usually accurate only when they're not talking. ;)

Anecdotal evidence on the forum seems to back that up. Nothing official from Ford though.

That means no GT's or GT PE's being made or delivered. Not good and they will be raked over the coals by their competitors over that. It makes you wonder if the packet batteries that they buy and use are all be diverted to the F150's as that is such a critical and visible venture for FoMoCo.

I wouldn't make that leap. I have seen posts here of GT/GTPE with scheduled production dates. That may be why a Premium ER is hard to come by. The bigger batteries have been slated for GT/GTPE. That's just my SWAG of course.
I doubt the Lightning plays any part. Production for that is way down the line.

Yeah, I'm not expecting my gtp order to be fulfilled for at least 8-16 months. And when it does, I'm half betting that the Ford dealer will sell it over MSRP and tell me they 'forgot' it was an order.

Yes, I'm over on the grumpy thread also. :)

At least it's not made out of lumber and dependent on Lowes!

Did you convert a reservation? If not, you may not be too far off.
