Infinite Blue is now offered as a color choice for the 2021 Ford Explorer. I still wonder why they pulled it from the Mach E? This was in the Ford Authority I just received in my e-mail.

They removed it from the Explorer shortly after they removed it from the MME. Now that it's been added back for the Explorer, maybe it will come back to the MME as well.

Why do you think they're doing this?

I would guess that there was some sort of shortage of something required to make the paint (pigment?). And now maybe they've secured what they need.
Weird.

I was at the auto show over the weekend. The ford representative told me paint colors are like everything in automobile manufacturing are all about economics. He went on to say that a certain percentage say 10 to 12% of any particular vehicle need to be a particular color to have it be cost effective. He essentially said ford was not getting enough orders in infinity blue to keep the color. his personal opinion was that the brochures don't do the color justice.

I guess our survey wasn’t large enough because I seem to remember Infinite Blue was up there as a popular choice (second place?). I wonder what color sells the best now? Rapid Red? One of the white choices?

I think we should find some sales figures. But it is a logical reason
It's really not. Remember, they dropped Carbonized Gray at the same time. Do you really think sales numbers for Infinite Blue and Carbonized Gray were so low that they had to drop the colors mid model year? And how would that explain that Infinite Blue was dropped from the Explorer at the same time but is now available again? There are several logical reasons for why they may have dropped these colors, but I don't think lack of sales is one of them.

As of late December's orders, Infinite Blue was the most popular color:

Respectfully, info until just December is an incomplete data set. To understand we need to see the data from launch to removal of the color. Maybe it was an illogical or arbitrary decision by Ford but I haven't seen enough data to support any claims and I'm certainly not defending them.

One other thing I would like to add is ford has released some of the sales data. The MachEForum Survey results ( the pie chart posted above) are considerably different from that what was actually sold by ford. Admittedly looking at the survey data posted it looks like rapid red and infinity blue are the most popular.

Feel free to pull together the data and run the analysis. Remember the claim made that IB was pulled because it wasn't popular enough came from a dealer. We all know how unreliable dealer information can be.
